sprockets
 
hi all,
i am going to replace both front and rear sprockets and a new did chain.
first time on this bike!!
any best procedures?
any help welcome!

Should be straight forward boru. What type master link are you using?

The rivet type needs to be expanded but not over expanded to where it cracks.

The clip type needs the leading end to be the closed end of the clip.<-VERY IMPORTANT or it will come off during acceleration. Also do not spread the clip with a screwdriver. Instead, snap it on with pliers by having one jaw on the pin and the other on the closed end of the clip.

the chain came with a rivet link and ive ordered a riveting tool.
but the chain on the bike is a split link.
so this is new to me!!!!

Because you are removing the old chain and link, you can remove them in the easiest way. Grind, cut or actually use a screwdriver on the clip link. I find it easiest to use pliers to remove the clip.

You may find this video useful. I don't necessarily agree with everything he says but for the most part I do.

cheers timbuctwo,the riveter ive ordered is an easy riv 5 by AFAM.
seems easy to use and not over tighten if thats the right word!
ive watched a lot on youtube and they show you how to use it.

Hi , I always leave the chain on then crack the front sprocket first, easier in gear and someone applying the rear break, can be a pig if you take the chain off, but I assume that's how you would have done it:)

If you still have the factory front sprocket on. Or a factory spec replacement, it may have the ring guide and damper (GUIDE, RING 23820-MM5-000 / RING, DAMPER 23821-MB6-000). The replacement will most likely not have the bolt holes for it. Don't worry, it's not needed.

I agree with CaBaRet. Pull the front sprocket first, loosen the front sprocket first and then pull the chain and rear wheel. That front sprocket bolt can sometimes be a bit hard to undo.
