Default Speedo quit working.

OK, I changed the chain & sprockets on my '95. Thanks to everyone about my clip vs rivet master link. I ended up buying a rivet link & a chain tool kit from Cycle Gear. Sooo, all back to gether now, and the *&%$#! Speedo doesn't work! Worked fine before, followed my FSM on the take apart & same on put together. Didn't work on test ride, so I tried to reset it twice. No go. Any hints or ideas?

Maybe rounded out on the main bolt it gets driven from on the front sprocket.

it can be rehabbed using JB weld if this is indeed the case

Pull the sprocket cover and inspect the plastic "cap" end of the drive.

Also your speedo cable may not be fully engaged back down into the sprocket cover

it's usually one or other of these two items

hmm, it worked last week, I put it back together today & it didn't work. They round out/die that quickly? Anything I could have done wrong when I put the cable back in the drive? Low mile 24k bike, everything was working..

And as Sprock mentioned, make sure the cable fits right going back in the housing on the sprocket cover. You will see the notch on the cable has to be lined up properly in the housing. If you didnt do it, look at the end of the cable and then inside the sprocket cover for the cable and you will see what we are talking about.

OK, did another look. With the bike on centerstand, looking at the little drive tab that the cable slot mates with, the tab should turn when the bike is in gear and running, right? Mine is not.

There is a plastic part that is a go-between from the sprocket nut to the tab that drives the speedo. That part has a slot in one end for the tab to slip into and a six sided hole that matches the nut on the other end. Mine had a crack in the nut side that let the nut slip inside the hole.

Are you missing the plastic part, or is it cracked?
