Default Speedo error

Hi Guys,
My speedo is out by 10 kilometers. At 70 k's it's out by 10 and at 100 k's it's out by 10. It's reading 10 over so not too much of a problem.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I know there is a plastic nut thing under the sprocket cover that gets worn down after every 30,000 miles or so, which I had a problem with. But this problem sounds nothing like it because a worn plastic nut would of course read low or cause it to not read at all.

I think that's pretty normal. Most speedos on most bikes are somewhat optimistic.

Yup -

Lookit

Paco and I agreed about something.............hehehe

Just for interest's sake - if you fit the dial from a later model to an earlier speedo it's 20 out as the markings are in slightly different positions on the dial.......at least on KPH speedo's

If you have fitted a 180 tire onto a 170 rim, that could account for most of your difference. If it makes you paranoid, you can fit a smaller rear sprocket (I think a 39 tooth) to bring the speedo closer to reality

It was a common thing to do(from manufacturer) back in the day. If you would read the magazines from back then it would show how fast and the then speedo reading....

You can mount a GPS that shows how fast you are going....

As far as I know it's standard tire but I can cope with error. Thanks Guys.
I have just got the bike road legal as of this morning, feels great to have it on the road!!!! After not having a bike for 17 years, it's a great feeling. She is still a bit untidy but will remedy that over time.

I rode a long time before I realized it. I remember people kept blowing by me on the interstate and I thought I was doing the speed limit. After using a GPS I realized I was actually only doing 60mph in a 70! Mine is one tooth down on the front sprocket and 11% off. The faster I go, the bigger the difference between actual and reading
