If that's the case, what about a 1000RR? Lots of people use them for daily riding and even touring. You can put a set of bar risers on them if the forward position is too extreme for your tastes. I don't think it is but I'm used to riding a road bicycle with an even more forward riding position.

I guess the Blackbird isn't that crazy but man they're fast, what a machine. I've always had a pull towards the old tl1000 widowmaker too... but that does NOT fit my needs at all! Good thing the 1000f is treating me right, I'm hoping to get some miles on her Saturday.
Maybe that's because your 'cane is the practical bike? Nothing wrong with a TL - They're very cool as well.

Mind you I would have thought maybe a power commander or something like that would change the power level of the FI bike.

Maybe Dean0 can shed some light on that?
There is always lots of arguing on BB forums about the numbers but they seem to be :

96 to 98 - CARB - analogue dash - 22ltr tank - 164hp
99 & 00 - Fi - analogue dash - 24ltr tank - 164hp
01 to 08 - Fi - digital dash - 24ltr tank - o2 sensor & cats in exhaust - 155hp

The carb bike will do the same miles on a tank of fuel as an Fi but needs 2ltrs less fuel for the distance.

Go for whatever floats your boat - the BB is a cracking bike.

Fit the famous 6mm shim on top of the rear shock and you get a fairly agile sport tourer.

Fit a pair of aftermarket cans & linkpipes to shave around 20kg off the BB ( OEM cans weigh a ton )

Make sure the loom fix has been done on any Fi bike

You won't regret it.

Well DeanO looks like the 99-00 is the Bird I want! If I got a newer one and eliminated the cats (aftermarket pipes I would assume) do I need to do any reprogramming to get drivability back?

I believe that if you ONLY change the cans - the ECU has enough adjustment to run correctly.
However - for best results - a power commander set up correctly would be the best option.
