I buy 4.5 litre diesel oil, I think 10w40, enough for the service and topping up as well.

To quieten the cam chain rattle go with a heavier/thicker oil like the 20w40.

If you want to spend the exta cash, try the iridium spark plugs, though I just use normal plugs

Hawk matey, is there any particular reason you use diesel oil? I've not heard of anyone using diesel oil before in a bike engine....

Im buying oil + filter this weekend Hien Gericke have an offer 10w 40 £29.99 & FREE filter (CBR1000f should be £8.99) but this is ONLY with 10w 40 so if you want to try thicker oil you'll have to pay for the filter.

I did think of trying the 20w 50 but cam chain not too bad lets see what fresh oil does first.

10W40 and 20W40 are the same weight at operating temperature....so buying the 20W40 won't do much for the rattle.

Maybe 20w50 then? mind you when she's nice and hot she's pretty quiet.

I'm with Hawk on this one because I use 20w50 and the reason is
it rattles only until it reaches operating temp .....SO 20W helps in the
initial warmup phase where the oil pressurized CCT does better with
colder heavy weight oil !

Shakey. Get a couple of cartons of beer, sit in your most comfy chair, get various food items close to hand then type in diesel oil into the search thingo on the forum...see you in a couple of weeks mate. There's some technical data there that will turn you grey. It's like tyres or beer...everybody has their favourite.

btw, I still use 10w 40 bike oil (Motul) like I have for years.

I have always run 20/50 in my bikes & have been very pleased with the smoothness.
