Default Scary Wheel wobble

On my way to work there is only one bit of curvy road (hey its Florida) and I tend to try and enjoy well about half way around just after the apex i started getting a serious wobble at the handle bars. My first thought was a flat. But a pressure check when i got to work and before I left revealed 35.5psi. However I did find that somehow my oil cooler had come unbolted and was hanging by the oil lines and I thought maybe that was upsetting the front end somehow. Grabbed a couple bolts out of the bin and put her back in place. I checked all the bolts on the triple tree the axle and the clip on's also the forks themselves were fine and everything is nice and tight. So it must be that my wheel barrings are shot correct?

Yes AJ probably bearings but don't discount tyre wear. Check that the tyre tread hasn't lifted from the carcass anywhere around the circumference. I have had this before with Shinko tyres.

Don't forget to check the head stem bearings as well.

Cheers, SB

Ok thanks SB, yeah the tire Is fine I looked it over pretty thoroughly. I forgot to mention in addition to the wobble its also doing this sorta clunking when slowing down and it gets violent under braking. Is that the wheel bearings as well?

^ I'd say wheel bearing or head bearing like SB suggested.

First check the wheel bearings. With the wheel out, put your fingers through the bearing holes, while lifting the wheel off the ground move it forward to get it spinning. If its not as smooth as a baby's well oiled backside, its bad.

If its not the wheel bearing, reinstall the wheel and rock the bike with front brake on and feel the upper head bearing for movement.

Looks like some good prices at Motosport.

If you need suggestions on how to remove old bearings give us a shout.

Ok I Dled a copy of the service manual, bearings ordered. Wow the steering bearings look like a pain in the but, wheel bearings seem pretty straight forward. how long do bearings normally last? The bike only has 14k miles on it

^Bearings can degrade quickly if bike is stored outside or ridden in rain often or they can last a long time if the seals are in tip top shape.
