Replacing head gasket
If you read my other post "Looking at an 88 Huracaine tonight" you know I need to findout how to replace a head gasket on a 1988. I would like to start by saying I have replced a head gasket on a car so I'm hopeing this will not be to much harder. The car took me 6 weeks to do but it ran good with no problems for 3 years then I sold it. I know the guy that has it and its still running without a problem.
So I need a shop manual first, any suggestions where to get one and are there different companies that make these?
Then I will need some parts, where is a good place to get those?
Any imput or suggestions will be helpful.
Thanks,
Steve

6 weeks isa long time
I reckon it should take you a weekend, unless you get stuck for parts or have to get other stuff done (haven't done a bike but have done a car also)
Do a search on the forum and you will find the CBR1000F manual as well as the Honda Common Service manual you can download

This is the least expensive place I've found for OEM parts. They have the factory Microfiche online. Shipping charges are a little on the high side, but the prices are good.

That manual is for a later model CBR1000F. Some stuff is the same, some isn't. I would try to find a factory manual for 1987-1989 CBR1000F models. You could use that one for like torque specs and stuff, but actual step-by-step stuff is different. Do not get a Clymer manual. It is too general.
The haynes in line fours will give you some great info, and coupled with the downloaded pdf's you should have no problems. If you take some pics when you start stripping, then the manuals will make more sence. As for getting an original honda manual with good photo's is near on impossible, but a photocopy will help as the inline drawings and order of assembly is done in detail.
I need some help with understanding how to remove and then install the cam chain tensioner. The manual does not give much information in this area. Do I just unbolt it to remove it or do I need to relieve the tension first? How about when I install it?

I got the cams out today and decided to check the head bolts to see if they were tight before I removed the head. And guess what the one at the oil lead was only hand tight. So I tried torquing it down but it just slipped. So I took it off and the nuts striped. So it look like I just need a new head bolt nut.
