Default remove front axle, why so difficult?

I'm doing maintenance on a friend's '87 1000F, including brakes, fork slide bushings, etc. But I can't get the front axle pulled, it won't even turn left or right. Am I missing something else I need to remove or loosen?

The speedometer gear housing is frozen too, it doesn't move.

I removed the calipers, axle pinch bolts, fender... I jacked up the bike to the point of getting the forks to slide out of the triple trees. Then I slid the left fork off the axle, but the right side (with the axle nut) won't budge. Help?

This pic here shows that the speedo needs to be removed. I have never had problem removing the axel. You should replace the bearings as well.

Put the axle back in from the left side and thread it into the right side nut. Then drive the axle right pushing the nut out.
