I'm sure the good bits of your 91 bike would fetch good money.

Actually - I am considering this.

Full stainless exhaust - the end cans have been fitted - but never left the garage

Full set of plastics with touring screen

Custom seat

HID kit - never been fitted

2 refurbished wheels - never fitted - not even got tyres on them, powder coated in metalic gunmetal grey (5.5 inch rear) (Powder coat alone cost me 220gbp)

Add onto it all the other bits and I could afford to get myself on a BlackBird

Decisions, decision

btw Hi Hawkwind - good to hear from you

gawd - LOOKIT !!
It's de amazing hamster back to break the peace
Good to see you again
Dean0 - you're a star, BUT
I can's agree with your choice of colours on the 89-91 bikes
EVERYONE KNOWS the silver and blue/grey are the best looking

Oh and Harry, watch that US import - may be the California engine with all the stupid emission plumbing......

Did you see this one ?

Harry
Done some digging.

From 87 to 99 the CBR1000F had basically the same motor.

Bore - 77mm
Stroke - 53.6mm
Comp ratio - 10.5:1
Carbs - 4 x 38mm Keihin
Power 132hp
Torque - 104nm

Main differences are the cam timing between the countries.
Worst case would be to use the cams from your engine in the USA motor.

BUT - It is looking like the 87 motor might just fit in to yours.
Would actually be better to swap the heads cos then there is no messing around with log book numbers.

Will your mate let you near the bike to do some measuring as a reference between the bikes ?

Hi Shadow, That bike is real sweet - put it in my watch list, but I think it will sell for a fair bit more than it is now lol.

Dean - thanks for checking that up for me, I think I have a plan.

My mate would certainly let me take measurements etc, but I think I am going to bite the bullet and just buy it off him.

I can either - use the head off his, swap the engine over, or break both bikes and buy a blackbird!

I happenn to know that this guy takes real good care of his stuff - He also builds and races drag cars as well as having a fully rebuilt US Sherrif car which he takes to shows. I think a low mileage '87 with known history is better than the us one, and by the time I sell all the bits I dont want of his bike it will really offset the costs.

Best solution for me is to use head off his bike to get mine running and then keep my eye open on ebay to get a replacement head for his (I'll be able to put it on myself after you show me what to do with the first one lol).

That will give me my bike running with its original engine and a 30k engine of known history that I can keep as a spare! I can then go through all the rest of the bits of his bike choosing what to keep and what to sell. I expect I'll get a few quid just for his plastics!

When are you available to give me a hand?

Either Heli-coil or Time-Sert the hole. A good machine shop can do it for you if you don't want to do it yourself. Save yourself a lot of heartache of a rebuild or transplant.

I would still have a chat with a good alloy welder and get the hole filled up.

Then re-drill and tap the head.

The good thing is you will have the 87 to play on whilst you work on yours.

I think the best option if it fits is to just do an engine swap for the moment. I can actually do this myself - Well I get it to the last bolt and then have my brother help with the lifting. I have done this before.

This will mean I can get the head of and replace / repair at my leisure. There is a decent welding place not far from here, so I guess they may be able to do it :-)

I pick the bike up on saturday, so I will know more then !
