Question Rear seat cowl.

I have this picture of an '87 or '88 hurricane and it has a cover on the rear seat. Making it look like a solo. Could you tell me if this was an OEM part or custom and if it is still available.

That is a great looking cowl - I hadn't seen that before.

There was a forum member - CBRSixPack - who made some for the Mark 2, but not fully finished.

We need someone on the forum who is good with fibreglass molding

Cheers, SB

Not oem and I believe it may be a custom fab or an adaptation of an 88 GSX-R 1100 seat cowl like this one

Nice looking bit of kit, and also an excellent quality photo of an original '87 to give us a benchmark to work towards. If you manage to work out how to make one I'm sure you might find some interested customers round here.

I had a seat cowl for my F-J back in 1988. A company in the UK used to make them, possibly Pyramid Plastics (but possibly not). I went up there to pick it up (any excuse for a nice long ride!) and they took photos of the bike and used it in their advertising. They may still have moulds?

To make a custom seat cowl like that from fiberglass would be easy and take about a week or so. Really i don't think enough people would want to buy them at the price you would have to sale them to just break even let alone to get any pay for the time. But to answer the question i think it is custom or made by a small time shop back in the late 80's when the bike was new. Make it your self is the best bet i have made a number of fiberglass tanks ,belly pans and fairing over the years fun stuff.

Well done Rick,

I will be interested in the outcome - and one of the cowl if the price is right. Group buy perhaps?

Cheers, SB

Hey:

I am pretty sure that is the optional Hondaline solo seat cover. It sold for like 399.00 back in 87-88 and is why you do not see any around anymore as they did break at the mounting area when people sat on them, plus where do you store it when you pick up a passenger? Plus did not sell well and dealers did not stock them, it was a different time back then. Also Lockhart Phillips and a few others made them and they were alot cheaper like 199.00 and they did not sell many either.

This was like the 90 up CBR1KF Hondaline colour matched luggage setup and Sport rear rack extension it was expensive not many sold and is now as rare as rockinghorse poo. They are out there but far and few still survived.
