Rear brake lever

RE: Rear brake lever
ORIGINAL: CosmoBob
I appreciate your view and want to say I believe in any rider to do what they like, and do it their own way! I am also a real novice rider and have very much to learn for a long time still. Nowadays I ride almost exclusively on my toes as I find this to improve my riding and also to be the more comfortable riding style on the Hurricane.

Thanks for the advice.

RE: Rear brake lever
P198 of the manual ( if you downloaded it) will give you a diagram to work from. It sounds like it could be an adjustment problem, but I don't have too much time available to strip mine at the moment, sorry.Took pics attached before supper - hope they help.If you send me your e-mail addy I can send decent size ones you can work from....
Looking at the picture you took, the end of the gearlever is scuffed as though the bike has gone down on that side - the scuffing is on the bottom of the lever peg which would indicate this, and such an accident would bend the lever up.....
Maybe the lever is just bent - there are other marks on it which look suspicious. Compare your lever to mine and it certainly looks a bit odd. Don't just give it a smack though, you'll damage the slave cylinder piston that it activates.
Best I can do for now......

RE: Rear brake lever
I have a size too big and a size too small allen head... so I can't get the plastic cover off of the area, but I glanced over the area and it doesn't appear to be bent. I mean, it's still level with the peg. You may very well be right. Honda dealership would have the replacement lever, or would I have to replace the entire assembly?

RE: Rear brake lever
Can't help with tools - It CAN'T be level with the footpeg, it's about 2 inches too high...I think
Check the photos. Strip the thing and bash it a bit - sure to solve the problem.
Gamla Gubbe (old fart, to you non-Swedish guys) Grrrrrr signing off - my dinner's getting cold, Cosmo !

RE: Rear brake lever
The rear of the lever acts against the plunger in the master cylinder, and there are plenty of springs attached to that particular area. Wait till you have the right Alan key, and do it in daylight...hold on, it probably IS daylight where you are....which is where ?
Worst case scenario - you could cut a V shaped notch in the rear section of the lever, and bash it closed and then have it welded - not ideal, but it would move the front of the lever down at least a couple of inches......
I think you'd be able to buy just the lever, check e-Bay and if no luck, send me a PM and I'll check with some friends in the UK, who break bikes for spares.......
