First off, don't do that, if I'm correct in assuming that you're downshifting to first to stop. You shouldn't need to do that except in the most extreme situations. Your bike will resist a downshift to first when moving unless you really jump on the shift pedal. Hopefully, your just kicking it into neutral when trying to shift to first. Now, if you were jumping into neutral when accelerating in gear, then you'd have a tranny problem- likely a broken tooth on one of the gears.

If I'm coming to a planned stop, ie anything other than an emergency I just roll to that stop in top gear and when pulling up pull the clutch in and click back down to neutral. I don't see the need to go down through the gears for no particular reason.

Well Bordo we all do things differently I s'pose......me I shift down through the gears
to second and brake to pull up & "stop" and then engage 1st at standstill.
reckon raiden may have a bent shifter fork imo

Downshifting to shed speed shouldn't be a problem. One positive is that your brake pads and rotors will last longer. I just don't downshift past second gear normally.

I got a feel for what mine wants when downshifting. It will shift smooth into the gear thats acceptable for the speed. I think 1st is the only gear that I have to be at almost a full stop before it will accept smoothly.

I shift into 1st on the move all the time. Coming up to a 'give way' where I'm not going to stop completely, for instance. Never even thought about it so I paid attention this morning. It felt no different than any other down shift in my box. I'd probably only go into 1st when I'm down to a jogging speed though.

We've all got different ideas I s'pose but I don't like to pull up in top gear, just in case I need to get the hell outta there in a split second because some **** is on the mobile phone and is going to run up my ****...Just a paranoid old ba5tard I guess.

My would be a bent or worn selector fork too (sorry). I think a busted tooth would make itself very obvious.
