Don't waste your time with an OEM reg/rec
If they (ever)arrive from Japan, they are WICKEDLY expensive and have no guarantee.
The Electrex unit has a years guarantee (and they stand by it)
and are a far superior unit IMO.
You will have it in about a week, tops.

There should be NO spare wires, of any colour.
I'd suggest you look into your wiring to see what's up.
Check the workshop manual - there's a wiring diagram there.
If you are battling after that I'll take a pic of my wiring diagram in the manual for you.

What's interesting is that THIS R/R for sale is from a 95, but it appears to be an aftermarket one. Mine was the stock flat honda black one.
But do you see what appears to be a single black wire in the pic?

Interesting.

But yeah, I'd just get the schematic from the workshop manual. Could certainly be the reason you aren't getting charge.

I don't think that reg/rec is from a 95, Dylan - looks like the original 87/88 type with two looms.....even my original 90 model is more advanced than that......the 89 onwards had a single plug, and no cooling fins, which is why so many of them cooked.
