To paint or not to paint? yes or no
I touch up the lower cowl every year when the white stuff starts to fall. I have seen on the site someone wants to paint there bike with truck bed liner. I got a brain fart and was thinking about painting the lower cowl. . . black with truck bed liner for protection. Has anyone done this, or is this a bad idea ???

I don't think it's a bad idea. I would just keep it on the lower cowl parts that aren't shiny. If you taped it off and just sprayed the front where the rocks ding it up, I think it might work pretty good. I've used the paintable undercoating with good results on truck beds and chit (after welding). Over time, it gets pretty hard and rocks don't seem to phase it. You just don't want to get the stuff that stays really soft. Paintable stuff is the way to go.

Good job with the paint idea Indy .
Rhinoliner would cover it all and protect it from chipping again and it would probably stick well if you scuffed it. I don't see why not.
If you used an undercoating, though, I'd use a paintable one and scuff and prime under it.

I have not thought of that idea. Thanks, thats why I ask the question. Since I have touched up the chips I will go that route. Maybe next year I will redo the lower cowl.

That is a novel idea there Shadow and one could use Trout's magic WD "love" potion to take to off when it needs replacing LOL
I'm fortunate on the other hand .........I ride soooooo fast the bike barely touches
the ground so rock chips are not a big issue............whereazzz Trout always has
to plough along the shoulders of the roads in his dirt biking routine .........hee hee
It's just the way he rides ........LOL
