New owner 87' CBR1000 Hurricane...
I just picked up my first CBR! It is a 1987 CBR1000F Hurricane w/ 11,000 miles on it.
I was wondering what kinds of things that probably need to be replaced or inspected.
It does have a new chain and front sprocket. I was going to change the coolant, clutch fluid, and brake fluid. Is it hard to change the fork oil too? Rear shock rebuildable? Wiring woes?
Thanks in advance!

Nice bike! IT looks just like mine! Mine's an '88 I picked it up with about the same mileage. The most common problems from our year bikes is the same with all of them... The timing chain adjuster will get kinda sloppy and the cam chain will make noise. But there's people who have rode for thousands of miles that way and never had a failure. If it had been sitting for awhile you would save yourself grief by going ahead and cleaning an re-synching the carbs. I didn't on mine.. (I am over the winter).. last season when I got my bike. And my bike had mood swings... somedays it'd run great... And others it would run so bad I think a lawn mower would beat me in a race. Other than that these bikes are tanks... They run for a long time, if you crash they're usually rideable after you pick it up. The down side is they're getting harder to find parts for... it definetly ain't no R6. Where I would think big lots would have parts for it.lol. Anyways... great looking bike and hope you stay around the forum for awhile. There's much to be learned from it.
Welcome to the forum! I am still not quite old member here, but I am so glad to have you as the owner of fitst Hurricane models. My Cane is 1987. Recently I started restoring the plastics, and petcock start slightly leaking. Also, fule pump went bad, so I removed it, but gravity works great to supply the fuel to carbs. I am learning a lot from this forum. Hope you enjoy your CBR.

Cool, I figured I would be joining a dying breed, unique is cool
It will be 20 years old this new year, I wonder if Michigan has vintage motorcycle plates?

Hey guys. I bought a 1987 cbr 1000f recently. I took all the fairing off to replace the cam chain and tensioner and when I did most of the fairing fell apart. Whoever owned before me apoxied alot of it. Some other things are falling apart on it too. I'd hate to just junk the thing, it runs great, but the only parts I can find online are too expensive. Know anybody whose got a cheap parts bike or some spare parts? Having read a little on this forum, I really wish I hadn't spent money on the new cam chain and tensioner. Oh well.
Scooty , you could start you own thread in the parts section?
Have you posted up before 'cos this is a real old thread? If not welcome to the forum
Like Indiana says , let us know where you are and what year bike you have , then we can keep an eye out for spares for you
Also trawl the recent threads , 'Bluebeard' has done some pretty extensive repairs to his 'plastics' and they look pretty good! Check it out
