i called a dealer and they said that it sounds like the icm "computer module" or the stator i know where the module is and that cant be checked but does anyone know where the stator is and how to test it

G'day. Starting from cold, running fine, spluttering, runs a bit longer then shuts down. sounds like something as simple as a sticking choke mate. Not sure about the carbies on your model but on mine the little rods that operate the chokes have stuck before. Lift the tank, operate the choke and lube everything that you can see moving (or trying to) with WD40 or a silicone spray. Check your cable for kinks and adjustment as well. Try this simple stuff first and let us know how it goes.

Dave.

Yeah, it certainly sounds like a rich running issue, Dave.
But Charly if you're sure it's not the choke sticking, and you know it doesn't have spark after it warms up, then it has to be either in your coils or something else that can heat up and lose contact. Could be a contact, wire, coil, etc.

i know its not the choke it works flawlessly not that the bike ever needs to use it. and im thinking its more of an electronic issue because the carb setting dont chance with temp do they? like i said above the dealer said something about the icm and the stator do either of these sound like the culpret or am i thinking comletely wrong any thoughts are greatly appreciated

I have never heard of a 1000F that doesn't need a choke to start from cold.
That seems odd to me, and seems to point to a real rich condition.
Possibly the choke is stuck on?
That would do exactly what you're describing.

But you said it definitely doesn't have spark after it quits??

As far as the stator... I suppose it could stop pushing power, but if it did, your battery would be sucked dry.

ICM? I don't know, but like I said... it's possible that something electrical could be heating up and losing contact. I've seen it happen on coils in control panels, etc. but haven't heard of it on one of these bikes. Maybe he has?

My guess would be choke problem, or coils, like Trout and Dave said.
Not usually an ignition control module.
Not the stator

Check your tank is venting correctly too.
When the bike stops, open the gas cap - if there's a WHOOSH - blocked tank vent.
The symptoms are what would happen if the vent is blocked........

Plus 1 there. Makes me suspicious of the choke. Dont discount the obvious. I sure have made that mistake many times. i just "know" something is a certain way, and later to find out it's not.

Of course if you are losing fire, then something else is going on.
