Default New to me 96 Cbr1000f

So I haven't been here much lately, although I am still slowly working on my F2 project, but I just recently purchased a '96 Cbr1000f for peanuts.
Supposedly has 40,000 miles. The Odometer stopped at 35,000.

Only found a few things wrong so far. CCT noise, the speedo joint nut, leaky water pump oil seal and the left engine cover gasket.
I took the valve cover off to remove the CCT. The top of the head is clean. No sludge or carbon. The CCT was clean too. I even put it in a ultra-sonic cleaner just in case.
The cam chain guide was badly worn, so I am replacing it.
<a href="http://s127.photobucket.com/user/exiztenz/media/cbr1000f/WP_20151024_21_40_30_Pro.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p140/exiztenz/cbr1000f/WP_20151024_21_40_30_Pro.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo WP_20151024_21_40_30_Pro.jpg"/></a>
I'm going to reinstall the CCT with the new guide and see what happens. If anything I will do a manual CCT mod. But I haven't made up my mind.

The Carbs on the bike are in excellent shape and were likely rebuilt in the past 2-3 years. The butterfly valves are spotless, gaskets still rounded and no stripped screws to be had.

Parts should be here Tuesday!
I also bought some stick coils on ebay to mod that as well!

Video of noise.

Sounds like you have everything well in hand, once the little jobs are done you should have many hassle free miles.

Looks nice by the way...

Wow, that looks clean. I hope it comes together easy for you when the parts get there.

Nice bike. It's nice to see another one well cared for. Well, cosmetically at least. Good luck with repairs.

I've had another CBR....
It just isn't functional yet :P

The previous owner of this bike had it less than a year but did a lot of cross-state riding. I want to say he told me he did 10,000 miles since January.
I know he did at least 5,000.
Either way, this was his FIRST street bike. He said he learned how to ride on it, which is crazy.
He didn't seem to know much about it mechanically or maintenance wise. At least the brakes are like new.
The owner before him was probably the one that did really good maintenance to it.

Do these bikes typically run hot?
Not just in traffic, but even while moving along, before the fan kicks on?
That was the only thing bad I noticed.
Although I did manage to somehow kill it in an intersection when starting from a stop, going to make a left. It was...weird... But I assume It was just a quirk of being on a different bike.
I'm going to drain and change all fluids.

Yep, in slow going (city traffic) they will run hot. A few of the guys have put on manual over-ride for the fans, particularly useful for city riding.

Might be worth doing a coolant flush and clean the terminals on the fan connector.

Cheers, SB

I figured it was likely normal. It never overheated, just stayed hot.
Thanks for the info!

So I got my parts in yesterday and started working on it today.
The plastic speedo nut was not the problem. But I can't get the screw out to remove the speedo cable end. The screw is in so tight that it busted some screwdriver bits, and now is a bit stripped.

Water pump O-ring is replace.

The left cover gasket that was leaking seems to have been caused by the fact that someone removed the cover, then just put on some gasket sealant in with the old gasket. That and it seems the bottom case may have been removed at some point. Same gasket sealant can be seen in some of the edges.

First priority is removing that damned speedo cable screw without damaging it more.
