Hi all. Just picked up a 1990 CBR 1000. I bought the one of the first 1987 Hurricane 600's in Orlando when i was stationed there and i loved that bike. So after about 15 years of not owning one, i took the plunge. Since i gained a few pounds since then, i figured that the 1000 was in order!!! The bike is in really great shape, never appears to be laid down. Just needs some minor work (carb sync, clutch, oil change) to get her in tip top shape.

I never tackled the clutch but i saw the post and it looks straight forward. What are people using for replacements? Stock? Aftermarket? I am not looking for performance, as this will bike will hopefully turn into a tourer.

Nice forum, i am hoping to spend a lot more time here.

Walt

Welcome to the site, Walt! Sounds like a nice 1kf.
On the clutch, I'd at least stick with a name brand fiber plate kit (and springs if you need them).
OEM kits are usually pretty darn good, but pricey. And someone out there makes the kits for honda, so.... if you stick with name brands I think you'll be ok and only spend about half the cash.

G'day Walt. I put in a Goodridge clutch ages ago and have had no problems at all. It's a p!ss easy job to do. Whatever kit you choose just soak the new friction plates in new motorcycle engine oil overnight and keep the other plates in order when you remove them.

Hey Hawk, " very fiendly".... You're not wrong there mate .

Not wanting to state the obvious, but I'll do it anyway. I think that your 600 had a cable activated clutch while the 1000's are hydraulic. Have you checked your clutch fluid and/or drained and replaced it if necessary?

I fitted a set of friction plates, off e-Bay - cost about 60$ as I recall - co is based in Texas. Plates have been in for about 40000 Kilos and are fine. Not all cheap kits are bad kits. I have been pleasantly surprised.
