Default New electrical problem

I made the quintessential mistake. I posted on here that the bike was finally running better. Now, this problem has actually happened once before. I rode the bike all day yesterday, probably 45 miles of around town driving during the day, got it home and went out to ride back to town yesterday evening and all the electrical power was down. I turn the key in the ignition and nothing turns on. When this happened before, I couldn't find anything wrong and took it to the honda dealer in town (who proceeded to tell me that they don't work on bikes older than 10 years, but did anyway) and they rewired the starter solenoid. They said they thought they would have to replace the solenoid, but they didn't list a parts charge for it, so I don't think they did. They also told me that the entire bike needed rewiring and wanted US$2400 for it. I didn't let them do that. But now the same problem has reoccurred and if any of you guys have advice regarding wiring or have had this problem before, all advice is welcome.

That's funny, I just had a honda dealer tell me they were going to have to send my bike out to a specialist to coatits rusty gas tank for $900 dollars US. Magic potion in a platinum can? I also had to tell them 3 times (over an almost 4 week period) that no, I did not want them doing anything to my fluids.

Daniel.Hennessy@va.g,

I just had my tank recoated inside and it cost me $130.00 US. The kreem kits around here are $40.00 and it takes two, then add the time involved. I did not have the time to do it and took it in.

Hi,
Have had this exact prob twice. There are two places I would check. Under right side panel there is a connection to starter solenoid, alongside a plug, mine was wrecked. This feeds the main fuse. I just bought another fuseholder and rewired it all bypassing all but the starter solenoid connections. The next is up under top left access panel, another connection failed here, caused full power outage. This is another connection failure. I just bypassed the plug and soldered a good connection up there. The Haynes manual helps to trace these things out. Start at the battery and work outwards. You KNOW it will be a main feed, cos nothing works at all. Let me know how it goes.

ara, is the connection you're talking about in front near or directly involved in the main fuse relay?

OK, I have uploaded a couple of pics to show how this connection screwed up on my bike, and what I did about it. I wouldnt have known it was shagged, as the fuse hid the damaged bits of plastic! Took me and the AA man about half an hour to find this fault, cos it all looked good. The fuse was fine, it was all the contacts that burnt out over time. The original plug now only feeds the solenoid, the new fuse holder feeds the bike. Just a quid or so from Halfords. The taped bit is just because some of the wiring sleeving was a little charred.
