Default New CBR1000F kid on the block

Hi all

Im a new CBR1000F owner at this great site, and just want to say hallo.

Last year i bought a 1996 CBR1000F in mint condition with 37000 km on the clock. The bike of my dreams fore the last 10 years. Since I live in Denmark I had to pay approximately 16000 USD for it because of the high taxes on bikes overhere.

The bike is beautiful, it runs great! it looks great and it pulls like a freaking F-16...

I have a tiny problem though... And as I can read it's a classic. The camchain

I have had the CC and CCT replaced less than 1 month ago, but when i give full throttle below 3000 rpm there is this ratteling/rumbling sound from the engine. Above 3000 rpm there is nothing. Can it still be the CC or is it something else ???

Hope to hear from you guy's, and I'm looking forward to spendt some time at this site!!!

Welcome and your bike looks great. I have dreamed a corbin seat but it is now too expensive for me. Aso I have been looking for higher screen or that kind of peace which makes the wind go higher, but have'nt found it yet here.

How is your chain and sprockets? Are they old or tight enough? And there are also other chains that could make the voice. Hard to say without hearing.

The seat is a Bagstar from France, It also came with a Bagstar tankcover and tankbag. All the parts in the same colours as the bike...

The chain and spocket was brand new when i bought the bike 8000 km ago, so i shouldn't think it's that.

Which gear are you on when giving full throttle below 3k?

It dosn't matter. The noise is there all the time, also in neutral. It has a distingt noise arround 2500-2600 rpm when cold, and an other sound below that rpm. that destingt sound arround 2500 rpm disappears when it becomes warm, and the bike becomes more silent, but the ralleling sound is still there. Very irritating after using 6500 DKR on a repair.

I was wondering if it is the right oil I am using... the choise right now is Silikon 15W/40

Could a thicker oil, say a 15W/50 solve the problem ?

I don't think a thicker oil will help, 15W/40 is right on for an engine in good condition and in your climate. You should let an experienced motorcycle mechanics listen to the engine. Why don't concider a nice trip to Bike in Trollhättan, they have several really good mechanincs with tremendous experience (I'm not connected to them). I would also check the magnet on the oil plug closely, and open the oil filter and examine for metal flakes. I dont suspect any problem in this area, but it is always worth checking if you have wird mechanical sounds from an engine.

Also check the ignition timing curve, if the ECU dosen´t retards the ingnition correctly at low rpm's there, could be a pinging (preignition) problem.

Full throttle below 3000 rpm is not the right way run a short stroked high reving engine like this, use the gearbox when you need maximum acceleration.

Great bike BTW.

To R1000:

Do you have a ling to Bike in Trollhättan or an address ? I got to take the bike to someone who knows his way arround a CBR1000F, because I'm the kind of guy that hate odd ratteling sounds in my engine but i'm no good as a home mekanic... Thanx for all the advice :-)

To MarkR:

I have 4 different windscreens to choose from. I currently ride with a low on like the original, but in black colour, Fits the bike quite nice... I agree on the big touring screen beeing to large, but it's nice though on the touring trips to France :-)
