Default Need tires for `88 Hurricane

Hello all:

Have a `88 Hurricane, 12k on her. She has Metzeler 110/80 v17 v270 me33 laser on the front. Metzeler 140/80 b17 m/c69v me55a metronic on the back. Back is good, front needs replacing. Will be replacing both. I would like to move up to 120/80-17 & 150/180-17 and am having a hard time finding tires in that size. I see that there are more choices in the 120/70-17 & 150/70-17 size. Can I use this tire on this bike without issues? I am looking at BT021's or PR-2's. FYI, first time buying tires.

Doug

I am running the 120/70 on the front. to put the 150/70 is on 10mm wider and that is only 5 mm on each side. I do not see why that would be a problem.

Stick a 5 1/2" rim on the back from newer 1KF and put a 190 on it. Best thing I ever did to mine.

Camdek (Doug),

I would either go with 120/70 and 150/70 or fit a larger rear wheel and run 120/70 front and 170 or 180/70 on the rear.

You can't put a 170 or 180 on the 87-88 model. Have to change rim, fender. I did the swing arm and brakes too to fit an 180 on there. If you do put 180 on there you do not use the whole tire.

Default Thanks for the replys

Thanks for the replys so far. The bike is completely stock and I would like to keep it that way for as long as possible. No mods unless something breaks and I can not find parts.

I would just stick with the stock sizes, too, Doug. I just mentioned switching to a larger wheel because I know it's a pretty common thing for people to do.
Since you can find the 140/150 in a lot of good brands and styles these days, I'd just do it.

BT 021 are an excellent tyre man. Mine being the 89 model I run the 120/70/17 and the 180/55/17 and I love how they stick. Like Doug said you don't use the whole tyre but you come dam close and its fun trying !!!!

If you permit Indiana, i will coorect the rim from 1990 and later will fit without changing the swingarm, only the right side spacer ,as for the fender you can use the inner fender of a 1990 and on and make it fit, i put 180 tire on mine and god let me tell you i do use it !, i will put some picture this week, in fact I am about to go and help melakur do the conversion. As for me i have puttted avon storm2 ultra on this baby and on the each side of the tire it is written storm, i am about to erase the lettering! If you wish to take a look atle a pic at my bike's pictures

Also the Avos are amazing tires cheapers than other brands they stick like glue, you always know what the bike is doing in the rain they are incredible, i caught myself going 140 in the rain, and they did not even move, i slowed down when i realized that, and best of all the bike is more lively and respond much better to inputs.. i had bt-21 before and i did not like them at all.

If you look at my post i made the recipe.

Good day to all!
