Need help (re)installing carburetors
#11
I have not done it on one of these bikes yet but other in-line 4's are a bitch too. I found it best to rotate the rear of the carbs up and then rotate the rear down while pushing them in. Basically you need to start the tops in first. They always seam to go in the easiest that way.
I have exercised my four letter word vocabulary while installing carbs in the past.

I've also found that everything needs to be lined up perfect and the airbox as loose as you can get it.
If you think inline 4s are a beatch, try a V-4 honda. OMG.

I had the best results from
1 Fitting the carbs to the engine first
2 Refitting the airbox boots after.
Warming the boots also helps, as does a little light oil.
No matter what it's a b-stard of a job if everything isn't lined up correctly.
First time I did it, 10 mins, second time, over 4 hours

Got those Keihn's back into the the 88
To 6 Fingered Man and Dr. Spock.
Your suggestions for getting the carb. rack back onto the ports were right on
the money. The hand sanitizer stuff does work much better than grease or oil.
Also it is critical to heat up the port sleeves up for at least 10-15 minutes. Minimum.
This task, could be considered a one person job, IF you have at least one racketing
strap , I would recommend two straps. Why do I say this? My guestimate is , it takes about 30-40 pounds of pressure to get those carb ports to engage. To equally
apply that kind of pressure on both sides of the rack is near f***ing impossible for
one person unless you have the hand strength of a NFL linebacker.
Don't try this as a solo unless you have *alot* of time on your hands and some
necessary tools.
Total time to complete : 7 hours..
The Honda engineer who designed the carb. connection should spend
a equal amount of time in hell for this bad, bad design.
