Default Nagging Problem Solved.

Hi Guys,

Some time ago I asked if anyone could give me advice on a fuel problem I was having. What the problem was, that the morning after a decent ride the bike would starve of fuel after a couple of minutes running. To get my bike going again, I would have to remove the seat, remove the fuel line from the Petcock, and allow an air blockage to clear. At first I thought it was a kinked breather hose, but was unable to find any. I was getting so pissed of with this annoyance, that I was even prepared to remove the carbi and replace all the breather hoses.

Then just out of idle curiousity, I removed the Petcock assembly from the tank, and stripped it down. I found several microscopic holes in the rubber diaphragm. I sent away for a rebuild kit costing a whole $15, installed the new diaphragm, and have not had a problem since.....FIXED!

Happy Days!

*and yer I do understand that there can be other causes for this type of issue *
Yeah... I half expected to hear "I solved my nagging problem by kicking that bish to the curb!"

Glad it was just a leaky petcock.
Happy to hear it's sorted out, man.

umm I see ya all got there before me .... I was going with ear plugs for me duct tape for her .......

But on the actual subject ... I wonder if carb cleaner does that to the rubber diaphragm ? (bit like wd on an oring chain ) or is it just an old used up
piece of rubber that's to blame here !

I once used one of those 'carbi / jet cleaning' fuel additives many months ago, maybe it had some effect on rubber parts....who knows.

I suppose it may not have helped... but I don't know, probably just old and needed replaced.

I'd go with the 'it was just old theory' especially where you live Eq..... al that heat.

As for the nagging problem, divorce may be a bit radical hawk but it's along the right lines if you can't solve it. I use the Dutch oven technique myself. Just wait for to go to sleep, head under the covers and wuff.....
