My bike's turn for a little R&R trouble!
Grrrr. Having had the starting problems (as experienced by a few others) a few months ago, I bought an optimate to keep the battery charged. This totally cured the starting issue and I later read on here how much the 1Fs like a fully charged battery. But I have not been convinced that the battery has been charging without the Optimate.
During the last week (when the bike has been laid up due to other commitments) the Optimate has indicated there is a problem with the bike or battery. I unhooked the battery today and plugged the optimate to it directly. Everything works fine, so it indicates the battery is not being charged on the bike. [:@]
Had a brief look at the RR and cannot find any black goo referred to in previous posts. I have ordered a multimeter to start checking the various bits but I suspect it's probably my bike's turn to have a new RR [:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]

www.electrex.uk for the reg/R
Check the charge rate from your stator
Check the resuistance in your field coils 2.0 - 2.6 ohms resistance
Sigh.......another one bites the dust
At least we ALL know what's causing it.....

Your bike should be able to stand for two-three WEEKS with a fully charged battery !
I still suspect something's amiss - If you keep riding it you may well get the "black goo" you have been looking for, and you may have to replace the stator as well !
Check the charge rate ASAP
