Default MPG km/l

Fuel consumption as been brought up before but I never actually tried to figure mine out. Here are the results of a ride I took last weekend starting out north to Rouses Point (first refuel at 192 miles on the odometer) and riding south on Rt-2 though the islands on Lake Champlain. South of Burlington,VT I refueled again and the third time was to top the tank off at home so that I could do the math.

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&cl...image&resnum=1

I doubled checked the actual distance traveled that was on my odometer to http://www.mapquest.com and it was dead nuts on. Interesting because my speedometer reads higher than actual and I just figured that they were both off. Most of the distance ridden was on main highways at 5,000 to 5,500RPM. There were some twisties and the ride down through the islands was far below the posted speed limits due to long lines of 4-wheeled drivers poking along. After the islands I was back on the main land of Vermont traveling on secondary roads.

I usually shift at 4,500 to 5,500 RPM while just out for a casual ride. I refueled more often than needed because I wanted to stretch a bit and there was no need to stay in the saddle to long .

miles gallons mi/gal
178 3.303 53.890
103 2.169 47.487
124 2.37 52.255

total total average
405 7.845 51.625

km l km/l
286.5 12.500 22.920
165.7 8.200 20.207
199.5 8.983 22.209

total total average
651.7 29.683 21.956

Final note: At worst 47.5mpg x 5.5 gal tank should get you 260 miles down the main road or 20.207km/l x 20.82 l = 420.71 km on one fill up.

Interesting info.
I've noticed that on longer rides... cruising, with some highway mix... I get about 48mpg. I have a bigger sprocket in the back (+2).
Normal commuting... ripping on back roads... I get 33-38mpg.

That's about right. I have taken mine down to 29mpg but that required a new set of tires after that ride....Hell-ooooooooooooo tire cord....

I've been getting 41-42 mpg commuting 84 miles per day, 1/3 hiway, the rest back roads. Certainly not trying to do economy runs.

I think the worst I've gotten was 31mpg. Pretty spirited riding, though...

Getting about 41 average 2/3 Highway 1/3 backroads ....daily commute but pushing
her especially in the am..........with plenty of coffee in me.

But pure cranking hard runs I get down to 31/32.

S'pose if I went easy on the highway (yet to do it) I'd maybe get 50's ...must try that
someday LOL

The reason I started this thread is to point out that the bikes do quite well over the road.
If someone were planning a long ride on mostly main highways, they can expect some good results.

SamkFL, your bike is in the ball park for normal riding. The lowest numbers I had was 20km/l. I also have to point out that I knew that I was trying to get good results and did not go nuts twisting my right wrist.
