MK3 Carb Needles Question
Got my 1990 jet kit in and shimmed - no problem
The 1993 is a totally diff design of carb. Have the jets in , Pilot and Mains
BUT
How the hell do you get the needles out of the slides to add shims ?
The Mark 2 - all you need is a philps head to release a retainer cap at
the bottom of the slide - the 93 NOPE - diff setup.
Who's got the answer ?
Before I snap the bitch off
Edit : well Trout gave me a few pointers to try tomorrow
Thread cap screw in center shank and push and wiggle
until it pops up - we'll see - dark out don't want to bust
it up in the dark - so tomorrow - I'll be going for broke
But if anybody has the "exact method best applied"
let me know

Ha! I was right! I was sitting here worried that I was thinking of the wrong carbs and gave you bad info, Mark. lol..
Just do exactly what I said in the last text. It will work. Same setup as many of the later model K carbs. On some of them, you think you're gonna break it, but then the needle retainer cap thingy will pop off. Then if you want to shim, you can use electronics washers. $2 at radio shack for the assortment pack and you can mic out 4 that are closest in thickness.

Thx Guys - I'll give it a go later this morning & yeah I keep getting a sense it''ll
snap and break off - but hey - at least this is all happening on two sets of spare
carb's. Funny thing is one set I got from Malbo's spare bike and when I opened
up the cap on the top of the diaphragm, removed the slide / diaphragm assembly
there was a honking huge chunk of foam that looked to come from one of those
UNI foam style filters inside just under the diaphragm .....lol
UPDATE : - applying a firm pull on the threaded cap screw- sure enough up
popped the needle retainer shaft
Thanks Guys

I re-jetted yesterday, HUGE difference. I'm starting to think all years need to re-jet to deal with the e-gas.
Yep! Best bet is to put the screw in but not all the way and pry up with needle-nose pliers under the screw head, across the slide. When installing, push the plunger thing in by pressing it against a board until flush with the slide top.
I had foam in #1 & #3. There is a carb breather under the right coil pack.
I cut a piece of Scotch-Brite to replace the debris filter. I think the ethanol fumes eats the factory foam.
Edit: Just remembered that I have 4 spacers if you need them. Also, I used Windex the other day to mount my tires on the DRZ400. Got looking at it and sprayed the carb boots. WOW! Carbs went right back on lickity slpit, so fast that I thought something was wrong.

Good tips TBT - I'll be pulling those little filters apart and renewing
Hey did you reset the pilot air screws - the "D" headed ones or just
leave alone ?
BTW all set with spacers I have eight old ones left over too
Two spacers was enough per needle - 3 would not have been a good
idea
My 1990 rejetted carbs will be going on the bike tomorrow
The 93 a week or two after I put the second Viper Race Can on
she's running with just one pipe atm
