Default Michelin are great

You may havenoticed that Michelin recalledtwo series ofMichelin Pilot Power 2CT tyres (dual compound) due to a fabrication fault. The recall applies for almost 70 000 tyres in two series that are fabricated over a span of about 5 years. The problem is that the front tyre skin can separate at high speeds. I used this tyre to Germany in June and drove at very high speeds for several days on Autobahn and the Nurburg Ring. The world wide recall was done shortly after.

I called Michelin head office in July and told them I had such a tyre, and then more or less forgotten the issue. The GSX R has been used very little since, perhaps at two occasions, and I’ve been using the bird for most purposes.

Yesterday Michelin called and said that they could not see that I have changed tyre and asked why. I told them I had forgotten the issue and just planned to buy a new set anyway since it has been used a lot. He insisted that they should give me a replacement tyre for free and also pay for the change at a local shop, the guy didn’t gave up until we have agreed and he was very nice and friendly. Isn't it great that a company do such a follow up considering the huge amount of concerned customers? The phone calls they doareworth a lot more than expensive commercials and by that Michelin ensures that current customers maystick to the brand, which would probably not be the case elsewhere. The tyre in it self, and there has not been any reported fatal accident, is a great tyre for very active driving. It glues to ground and doesn’t wear terribly fast. I wouldn’t recommend it for straight line commuting though, which would not be economical.

I love michies but they're not on the bike at the moment. I used them years ago on other bikes with great results. I do have them on the car though & they are marvelous. It's also great to hear that there are still some companies that value service over the dollar. I must admit that I don't mind paying a bit extra for a product if I get good service. To me if there is no service then there is no sale.
