Default RE: Mechanical cam chain tensioner for 1000f

Hey:

The cb700/750f nighthawk S 84-86 shared the same engine as the cbx750fe,
the only difference is the nighthawk S is shaft drive.
Maybe this will help.

1. Perhaps the CCT could be set to a fixed tension of 1/4" chain play between cam sprockets as for manual CCT's? Just putting a spot weld on a removed CCT that locks it position could maybe do this? It will not work if the CCT has to be movable during installation, which I don’t know. In case the cam chain is aged, it will not stretch any more, and the spot weld could be redone in case further adjustments are needed.

2. Could parts of the CCT be discarded and the enginecasing drilled and threaded to facilitate the use of and external adjustable bolt that pushon the cam chain rail slider? I mean as the principle for APE’s tensioners showed on http://www.bigccracing.com/shop/prod...p?idproduct=17

Those where just two basic ideas for the mechanically inclined to considersince I know the CCT is a costly and frequent issue on CBR 1000 F.

It looks like a maybe. The trouble that I see is, how do you do the mechanical adjustment? It looks like the adjuster would go up through the camshaft cover. I doubt that the detentions are the same as the CBX750. How would you seal the oil?

I have 35k miles on the CCT that I installed. It only took a few hours to install it.
I change the oil every 3k miles with motorcycle oil. My engine is still whisper quiet as far as the cam chain goes.
