Thanks Hardcorp, very helpful. So, if you want to lower the rear, Morayman, go see what was said in the link Gunny has provided. Never knew the earlier bikes had shorter shocks - always good to know. Now you'll just need a slightly shorter spring, and your lady will be up and away......

Default RE: Lowering Link ?

Hey all...I am the gal described above. I still have the CBR and am still having height issues. Figured I'd just get used to it, but that hasn't happened. I ride it, but have to overthink everything all the time - where to park, is there gravel, is there an incline. Hate it. Refoamed the seat, set the shock as low as it will go, put the forks up some in the tree, got taller shoes. Still can't back up. Not really a do-it-yourselfer, but am finally seriously considering having lowering links manufactured.

Has anyone successfully manufactured a lowering link for this bike? Do you have a template? Do you have a name/phone # of the person/business who made these for you where I could purchase an identical set? What material did you use?

I'm trying to get as much info as I can before I head to my mechanic and/or machine shop. Please advise. Thanks all!

I am a bit vertically challenged myself. My solution was to take my seat to an upholstery shop. They removed about an inch of foam and recovered it for about $80.00 U.S. It is still very comfortable and i feel much more secure at stop signs. They would also put a gel pad in it for another $100.00 after removing the foam.

My 1990 CBR100F is lowered about 2 + inches, 180/55/17 rear, sits low , handles extremely well, no quirks, home made links, stock spring. Tomorrow I can shoot some photos, and measure seat height for comparison.

Why mess with the suspension? I bet that two inches could be taken out of the seat foam, and another inch taken out of the plastic seat pan, and another inch taken from the seat edge (making the seat narrower).

I had the seat foam cut & recovered already - I nearly sit on the tank when at a stop - so I'm on thenarrowest and least paddedpart of seat pan - I believe.

HiFlyer - do you happen to have a template for the links you made? A pict would be great, but measurements would be fantastic! Did you have any issue with what Dad described in the above mentioned post with spacers/tubing? What material did you use? Steel?

I saw a lowering link for a CBR600 at the Honda shop today - roughly looks like a U - with a tube separating the two links - shop owner thought perhaps that could be modified to fit? I don't know - hate all the guessing. I'd rather follow a path that you guys have taken that actually works.

I'd appreciate any advice you could give. Thanks!

There was a link about raising the rear of the bike, I think about a month or two ago - It involved drilling another hole further forward in the linkage, about 1/2" as I recall...
If that's true, then if you went the other way maybe it would lower the bike ?
I've attached a pic of my suspension so maybe you can work out what I mean...............

My apology for the delay Hurricane Girl, (called out on a trip). If any help , measurements are taken with bike free standing, no weight on seat. Seat height is 28", ground to pegs 11.5".
