Knocking noise under take off load - '90 model
The audio clip reminds me of one of those wheels you spin to win a prize at the fair!
But on your bike, something is a miss. It sounds to me like the chain is excessively worn as well as the teeth my no be properly aligned up with the fron sprocket. There is a method of checking this with a straight bar. I'll have to dig itup for you as someone posted it it not too long ago.Very important...
The other thing I wanted to mention isto stick a long screwdriver on the crankcase near the clutch and put one end of the screwdriver up to your ear and the other solid on the case. Have someone spin your back wheel to replicate the noiseand try moving the screwdriver around to find where you hear it the worst. I'm hopingits not a meshing problem in the tranny for your sake.
And clean that chain up good with some karosine, or wd-40 as mentioned. Scrub it with and old toothbrush and get your hands dirty (put some old newspapers down first or the wife tends to complain!). Wipe it down several times to soak up that old grime and spray with your favorite lube. Mine is a industrial chain lube I picked up at a local parts store and I think its awesome stuff. Wipe off any excessive overspray. I know its hard, and a bit of a pain in the ***, but if your not sure of the condition of your front sproket, check it. Last thing you want is a broken or bent tooth up front. Trust me, its not pretty if it goes....
Good luck

Gawd, that chain sounds TERRIBLE.......sounds like time for a replacement set of chain and sprockets. Get good ones, worth the extra money. I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but at 92000 K's under load, knocking could be a bearing........I hope not, it's not a good thought, but should be raised.
one more thought - here's a pic of the chain rubber guard, and maybe yours is worn through, causing rubbing on the swingarm ?

I had a similar noise. It didn't go away at higher revs; I just couldn't hear it anymore over the engine noise. You might feel it through the left foot peg. Also, pull the clutch in and coast to a stop. You might hear an uneven noise that sounds a little like engine surge or an out-of-round wheel. It's really the chain riding up on the sprocket teeth. Anyway, I cleaned and lubed the chain, which reduced the noise. Then I loosened the axle nut and the chain adjusters, pushed the wheel forward, and checked every link individually. There was one frozen link. Some more chain lube and a little elbow grease and it's fine now.

I think the chain is shot. I replaced mine together with OE Honda sprockets when it was worn out. You have to be careful with the chain though as several companies have different load ratings for the same size chain.
For example the OE chain is an endless RK 530 "LFO". You can buy the non-endless version in both LFO and non-LFO versions. I don't think there is any danger in using the non-LFO but I suspect it may have shorter life?
Not for sure on this but there was a big price difference between the LFO and non LFO when I got mine. I also used the stake tool with good results t stake the master link.
Hope this helps,
Andy
