Yearly inspection is only $6 for a bike but $21 for car. Non-inspected fine was $15 but is now $50-$100 first time and $50-$200 or imprisonment for not more than 15 days for second time.
Yeah, that multiple taxation is the biggest bunch of crap.

I think we lost! BTW RI was the first blow in the American revolution no matter what Boston(tea party) wants you to think. By 2 years as a matter of fact. Burning of the Gaspee.

Hey:

Well one thing about NY that was good, is you do not have the Conn type continual property tax that we have thanks to a Conn politician that moved here and brought a new way of Tax funding with him. We not only pay real estate property tax but real property tax twice a year on every vehicle we own ATV ,cars, motorcycles, trucks, planes, boats, motorhomes and trailers. The State sets value by year and some models get a Luxury fee as well. So even since we have a low road maintenance upkeep due to the mild winter WX, (bar any ice storms, tornadoes, or hurricanes) the state is growing so fast we are building new schools, police stations, as well as prisons all the time. So as more Damn Yankees move down from up North this will get worse. NC is now one of the key election states. We pretty much gained all of the people that Michigan, New York and Ohio lost.

So say, I move here from NY I pay a new Title fee, (say $100) a transfer fee ($25), a registration fee($25), that is tied to an inspection fee that varies on year and if you have things like tinted windows($13-50), plus the new plate fee($25) and of course NC taxes on it state assessed value ($2,000.) Plus NC specific Insurance. Then the taxes every 6 months come into play based on that assesed value $200 Spring and $200 in the Fall for as long as you own it. And what on the surface seems cheaper starts catching up. On the plus side the real estate taxes are fair (whoops, I should not have stated that, taxe rise next year now).

Also NC is one of those states that even if you are overseas and Federal tax exempt they still collect Income taxes on that income for the full amount, No exceptions. So we are slowly being converted to Northern style taxes as more of us move down here. Also start passing laws to get rid of trailer parks and old cars in new housing rules. It is hard on the folks that have lived here all of their lives having to deal with the new progress as it is being labeled. Causing some carpet bagger type of resentments, Somethings are better left alone. So yes we are all being nickeled and dollared, and not getting a good return on that money spent.

I lived in CT in the '80's before they had state tax. They taxed you on everything you owned and considered it property tax.

I went to a dealership and told the guy several times I wanted a piece of **** car and he kept showing me things like a used Vette and cars I would have been taxed highly on. I finally said,"If you don't show me a crappy car I'm out of here." He took me around the back of the shop and pointed to a '83 Dodge Aries and said, "Listen mister, all I got is this lousy piece of crap that just cam in on trade-in. This is a real piece of crap and I know you don't want it so what do you want me to do? Hmmm!" I sad, "Let's do the paper work". I got it for $1,200. The yearly tax was $60 back then. It was nothing more than a rolling shoe box.

I had to put a radio in that thing. I had to pull door panels out to get speakers in and wire it. Clutch cable went on the second week of ownership. The next week the timing belt went, or something like that, I just remember taking the upper part of the engine apart on a nice weekend. After about three weeks the front struts were worth their weight at the scrap metal yard. My ex would just shake her head when I was working on those things. LOL It had red velour upholstery with multiple cigarette burns all over the drivers and front passengers seat and the entire thing stunk like an ashtray. LOL The state of CT thought more highly of it than I did apparently. LOL

Funny thing...I flew into Augusta, GA today and had a beer and sandwich at a favorite place. A guy sitting next to me, named Harley, out of the clear blue started talking about DMV taxes. He mentioned the property tax of CT and said GA is going that way because he gets taxed yearly on full vehicle assessment. Just out of the clear blue he started talking about it.

Hey:

It is the new South's, new idea, I see it as double and triple taxation which should be unconstitutional, you are repeating the same tax on the same owner. But what do I know I am not a lawyer. It just does not seem right. It is on everybodys mind prior to the elections and is dividing State workers on one side (needing funding for them to keep a job) and private enterprise companies giving up profit to pay taxes. It is a deal breaker for many. We shall see what happens after Nov.
