Indicator/horn/brakelight fuse keeps blowing
Hi all, anyone help?
A few weeks ago the horn/brake light/indicator fuse blew after a ride of about ten miles (I was being assessed by the Metropolitan Police on a Bikesafe course at the time!). Replaced the fuse, had lunch (i.e. the bike cooled down for an hour or two) but it blew again later that day. Replaced it again and it's been OK until tonight.
Yesterday I had the tail-light unit off to repair some of the broken plastic tabs, so had to twist out the rear bulb units. This might be relevant!
Tonight I rode about 20 miles and it blew again. Replaced it, tested the indicators, they worked, tested the front brake, it blew again. Replaced it again, tested the indicators again, they worked again, tested the front brake again, it blew again. Had no more 20A fuses so had to ride home without horn/indicators/brake lights.
Anyone suggest what to look for and where to start? Not sure if it blows with the footbrake.
Thanks!

well for now i would say its a bad ground or mabye a rubbed wire arcing out? some of the older bikes developed loose grounds after years of vibrating. check the ground for the rectifier, i have a few friends that had that same thing happen over and over. ran a direct wire to the negative from the rectifier, problem solved. no more blown fuses. may or may not be your problem, but somewhere to look. good luck

Almost sure you have a dead short in your power wire from brake switch/lever to brake light.
Check the switch first, they can be a bit finicky.....

Yer a bit of WD40 in the switch block can sometimes work a miracle
Water , moisture of any kind left in their can bugger things up..
( undo the block and let the it have it !!)
not that I am a WD40 abuser or nothin mate
Pete , you seem to know a lot about our old busses ... you are a good dude to know mate

Been building bikes forever... Many symptoms we have are the same as some of the bikes I've rebuilt - XJ900, GSX1100E, GPZ900R, XZ400, XJ550, and a few (UGH) offroads. Our old birds aren't much different. Current project is a CB750 Custom, which needs new rings. With the price of spares it's cheaper to buy a complete engine ![:@]
Don't ask me anything about the newer injected and chipped bikes - not a clue !
C'mon Steve, you KNOW you're a WD40 abuser.........

I'm amazed at the variety of problems that some of our buddies have with the FAT OLD LADIES -
in 70000 K's I've never had to
*adjust my valve clearances
*fiddle with my carbs (just a set of leaky bowl gaskets) BUT I have had
1 stator cover
3 batteries
4 reg/recs
1 set clutch plates
2 camchains
a leaky tank which I hope is now fixed. two part epoxy is great stuff....he he
It seems some bikes have more problems than others. My reg/rec problems were my own fault - dry battery = blown electricals. I think that (like me) some of our bikes are starting to feel their age........(and a lack of maintenance in their past lives)
Y'Know what they say -
You know you're getting old when everything hurts, and what doesn't hurt, doesn't work....!!
I'm glad everything still hurts....he he[&:]

Yer , I think its a Karma thing
If you do the right thing by your ride .... the right thing will be done back by your ride ..
I shudder at some of the posts that I read with guys having no end of dramas with their old girls ..
I rarely have anything go wrong ( touch wood ) with my bikes ..except for maintenance issues of course
