Ignition advancer, does it work

Will a ignition advancer give more power on our bikes ?

RE: Ignition advancer, does it work

An ignition advancer should give a snappier low/midrange throttle response and something in the region of 2 extra horsepower, if you are willing to increase the risk for pinging/detonation. To handle that risk, one could go up a step in fuel octane rating and also avoid giving full throttle on low rpm's on high gears. Going down one tooth front will also help to prevent detonation.

I believe it’s worth trying if you don’t expect too much and keep the information above in mind. A better way to increase the throttle response and power is of course to put a full exhaust system on and rejet the carbs with a dynojet kit. That will obviously cost much more and also lower the mileage.

Like R1000 says, you may have detonation, especially at sea level. But an ignition advancer may work pretty well at a mile high though. I will have to ask around and see if anyone here has installed one.
