Default Idle Question

Hello, i finally bought my first bike today 1993 CBR1000F, i have a question about the idle, the bike runs like a dream, however after about an hour or so of riding, the bike will no longer idle, it goes so far as to stall when shifting down between 3 to 1, or at a stop in neutral, if you hold the throttle ever so slighty it is just fine, as i am new to bikes, can anyone advise me on how to proceed or if like old cars there is a idle speed screw?

Thanks in advance

There is an idle speed screw. If you look on the left side of the bike... just in front of the petcock switch... there are two oval holes with a rubber flapper. There is a thumbwheel in there that sets the idle. Clockwise turns it up.
I'm not exactly sure if that will solve the problem, tho.

Run a couple of tanks with either Seafoam or Techron through it ...redlining her
here and there see if it helps ....she may be all gummed up from sitting too.

thank you both for the advice, i see the two rubber flaps your referring to, actually i pushed them in while i was showing the bike to my cousin, maybe i inadvertently turned the ****. I will purchase some seafoam as well and post back after i have done both suggestions, i thank you both for the tips

Shoot, just pull those carbs and make sure they are clean. Give it a few trys and you'll have it down to a science. I have done it so many times I can have carbs off the bike cleaned and re-installed in like 45 min. Just make sure those pesky pilot jets stays clean with an inline filter as well.

No problem, man. The thumbwheel is somewhat hard to turn, tho. I doubt you bumped it, but it's possible.

+1 to what everyone said.

Idle should be 1050 rpm when completely warmed up. Mine idles at about 900 cold.

a good proper cleaning, and a little B12 chemtool in the tank will do it. its cheaper than seafoam, and actually better at getting nasty gummed up deposits out.

dont skimp on the cleaning part. if you cannot see light through a removed jet, it is not clean.

With regard to your "stalling problem" - probably dirt in the idle jets. The needle and seats may be dirty in the float bowls. Easy enough to do, but try the seafoam or other stuff first to see what results you get.

I know others have said, set the idle at 1050. I'd suggest run it for a few weeks at 1250 RPM and if the bike's happy drop the idle down. My Mk2 1990 doesn't like to idle below 1250- and is lumpy even with clean carbs and sync'd.

Run carb cleaner through your tank every 3 fills to keep the old girl happy - I find it helps.

thanks everyone for the advice, i ordered a case of seafoam from my old buddies at the parts store i worked at, also i adjusted the **** behind the rubber flap, it is idling around 1000-1100 and idles fine now, right before i purchased it the shop put in new jets and bowls as well as changed the ai filters so i think i may be good now in that reguard. i do have one other question the row of lights across the top when i initally turn the key to the on position, should the oil light come on? currently it comes on and stays on until i start the bike at which point it goes out. i checked the oil it was a little low, im currently doing a search for what the best type of oil to use is, and again i thank you for all your assistance
