Default I had a woopsie tonight

So, I was on my way home from the drag strip tonight after helping the
guys with a bit of prep and maintanence work on the track, was freezing my bum off so thought I would screw it off the clock just to liven the ride up, now I do frequently rev my bike high as I know it's built stronge and feel comfortable that it isn't going to fly apart

I hit 12000rpm, then 13000, then comes 14500 and I felt a hot spray accross my left leg, I slowed down a bit and looked down but couldn't see nothing, so I kept riding home, once I pulled up the driveway I could smell hot oil, having just done my rocker clearences last Saturday I suspected it may be the rocker cover gasket, the whole motor is coated in fresh engine oil, and I cannot pinpoint were it is coming from, so far it doesn't look to be coming from the rocker cover
gasket, it actualy looks like it's coming from lower, around the head gasket perhaps

so needless to say the motor is coming out for a set of gaskets, seals, a new set of rockers, new gearbox and a general freshen up

this was going to be my upgrade thread, now it's going to look more like a fixemup thread, will keep you guys posted as to wat I find

thanks for reading my spiel

Oh I forgot, being new most wouldn't know my bike, it's an 87 cbr1000 hurricane with a few sensible performance mods, and set up as a naked sports bike, I like to refer to it as "the ugly duckling"

Well, now we all know the limit.

I guess that's why I hear they can run 200,000 miles if you don't over-rev them and keep them lubed.

Jeez 14,500rpm! I took mine to 10,000 today and thought that was a bit fierce !!

There's a red line for a reason , obvious damage is the oil leak , who knows what's been done to bearings ect?

Yea, I always feel like I'm hurting it or wasting it. I LOVE my bike. And it's OLD. I must be gentle. Don't be kicking granny in the poon.
