Default Hurricaine to mod or not to mod?

I have an 87 Hurricane and I am torn between painting and customizing. Or trying to restore it since that is the 1st year. I guess, I'm asking for the opinion of the masters. Do you guys think it is collectable enough to worry about? Or is this a stupid question?

Thanks,

Personally, if you are going to try to sell it, I would go with the stock colors. When you paint a bike, people tend to think immeadiately that the bike had a major crash. At least, that is the first thing I think when I see "CUSTOM PAINT!". But if it is for your own peace of mind, then paint it the way you want it. This is coming from a guy that has two Hurricanes, and I am trtying to find the stock "New York Blue" for the 1000 so it matches the almost perfect tank I found.

BTW, of course I am going to sell both, unless I like the paint job on the 1000 a lot.

I had a plan to sell it and rebuild another one. But the more I work on her, the more I love her. Then when I get to t ride. I think, "well, I will need a daily rider while working on the other bikes." I would have the same dilemma with a 68 Camaro. Just a sentimental fool I guess. Anyhow, thanks for the reply. I will think more about it when she is running again. I bought 90 dollars worth of o-rings for the carbs, opened the 1st one and now cannot find the parts. I hope my wife didn't throw the box away it felt empty. ( unless it was your 90 bucks in the box)

Same year and color, keeping it original. (Though about doing some burnt orange/blacklook for a short while) It still looks fresh for the age and color. That particular Alaska Blueseems to have been used a lot for the marketing, ads and bike reviewsat the time so is branded in our memories. It gets fond attention from seasoned riders at bike hang outsand interest from younger ones.If it goes on theblock down the road, that color will sell it.

I agree that original paint- if in decent shape- generally helps when you want to sell, but, I do like what this guy (not me) did with his 87.
