Lest's say that we could give it a number, from 1 to 10... the (CBR 1000F) will be in the top ten? We are talking ANY CBR like 1000F,1000RR,600F,600FI F3 ,600RR,954, 900RR, Repsol, and any year does not matter.
At least i think that my 1000 F is not crap, but it is a "older model".Do you getwhat im saying?

Kiepiz,I
I think what you are asking is if it will hold its own against the other CBRs. The answer is no. The others are sport bikes. The CBR1000F is a sport /touring bike made to traverse long stretches of twisting highways in comfort. It would need to be smaller and shed around 150 pounds to keep up with the others in the turns. The riding position would also have to change somewhat to an uncomfortable one to take on the turn better. The front end is a bit heavy and the rear tire would break out if the bike had the power that the newer sport bikes have these days.

It is ahead of its time when you figure in what the bike is all about, sport/touring. IfI didn't have my license pulled this summer (the 1KF was involved in that one) I would have ridden form New YorkState to Washington State on a cross-country ride. I also wanted to take a ride south to southern Alabama to visit a friend. I did get to take my yearly 650-mile day trip up Mt. Washington in Vermont. I love my bike for what it does and the comfort and protection from rain and. At nearly 53 years old I still can beat the younger guys on their sport bikes. I would love to have one of those things for some short rides but then again I would proudly loose my license again. So, the other part of the question is answered by how well you ride it.

The only other bikes I've ever ridden are the CBR1100, ZZR 1100, BMWK1100RS, FJR1200 and VFR750. And I agree with Noe what he says in his post

ORIGINAL: Noe

I have been looking a long time for a future replacement for my cane, comparing it with a lot of newer kit counting CBR1100, ZZR1200, BMWK1200S, FJR1300 and VFR800F and almost every time I test drive one of the machines that in different bikes may be faster, more comfy, more agile and so on, I often come to the conclution that one of the most perfect compromisis in the biking world if you wish to have a big sporty street bike, is the CBR1000F.

I think the Repsol is the hottest thing on earth but you could not sit on it for long CBR1000F rules 10 out of 10.

The new CBR1000RR's are very fast and very hot bikes. The same goes for the Gixxer and the R1, but onless you want to spend a 1000$ every month on chiropractor bills they are worthless. When I have ben riding a Fireblade or R1 for ½ a hour my back is just killing me. They are completely useless for touring IMO!!!

On the other hand, like mentioned above, you can't compare the CBR1000F with those roadracers! The bike that you could compare the CBR1000F with are: ZZR's, CBR1100, FJR's, Beemers, RF900'sand the likes. I other words sportstourers. And in that companionship it's still a good performer. So to give it a grade would be difficult because in different areas a lot af bikes have a lot to offer. The "Cane" suffers from weak suspention, and not havinf the stronest brakes, but I think I overall would rate the bike with 9 out of 10.

I haven't much recent riding experiences. My bike before my Hurricane was a '79 CBX and there is obviously no comparison in those.

One thing I can say is that I've been keeping my eye out for a possible replacement for the Hurricane and the only thing I'm considering at this point is a Blackbird or maybe, a ZX12, but probably not. Nothing else has the style, good looks and good riding position that I love about the Hurricane.

From what I can gather Honda first started importing bikes in the States with an engine called the CUB. They shortened the name to CB for most of the street models and added the R when they covered the bike in plastic later on. Now the R more or less stands for racing and RR is Race Ready. If Honda knew the direction that bike labeling was going,I think the CBR1000F would have been labeled ST1000F as the ST on most bike these days stands for Sport/Touring.

I don't think they did a bad job back then because they used the F. The F models were Super Sport versions of their plain CB models but still lacked in full bodywork. It seems that CBR1000F did fit back then but is somewhat mistaken today.

If the question were asked, does the 1kF hold its own against other bikes with ST labeling, I would say yes. Was it ahead of its time? I would say maybe. It was not the first in the ST market. The FJ1100 for example arrived in 1884. The 1kF was a water-cooled inline-4 that offered the rider protection and handled well while at the same time sooth and comfortable to ride. It was a well-finished and dependable Honda product. If I were to replace my 1kF I would consider the FJR1300 as it comes with bags.

It is sad that Honda does not make the VFR slightly larger with bags and enlarge the engine to 1000cc. That would truly rule the ST world.

When the '87 Hurricane came out, it was no sport tourer. It was intended as Honda's latest superbike and it was the fastest production bike and tore up the tracks for the first two years. It just happens to be very comfy and perfect for long distance riding. A very rare thing for a supersport.

Where can I find one of those? Actually, the first bike that I remember as actually being referred to as a sport tourer was the CBX from around 1880, er, I mean 1980, when Honda put bags and a full fairing on what had previously been a naked bike.
