Shadow1: Really? Is there a differance between pre-93 and after -93? I have dragged my pegs alot on a track day, with the exhaust shrouds unscraped.

To be honest - I don't know - I've never ridden a 1993 or later bike........
All I can say is that the footpegs on the earlier models to 1992 didn't scrape before the exhaust shrouds - have my own shrouds as proof....Pegs are unmarked.
Maybe Dad can tell us, but haven't seen him on the Forum lately - he's done plenty of track on his
1990. You may like to PM him.

 

I leaned mine over 90 degrees while paddling out of the shed one day. Fortunately my leg kept the fairing from being scratched.

 

My 88 has been leaning over pretty hard, no chicken strips left on the rear. The centerstand has a a nice shiny area and pegs and exhaust shrouds will drag quiet easily. Been working on knee down technique this week to stop hard parts from touching down.

Knee down but still see some sparks.

About the Pirelli Diabolos.
R1000 you said that those can't be leaned to the edge. So does this mean, that it would not be smartest thing to do practise leaning with them?

No, it just means you may not be able to reach the edge on the front until you are closer to 90 degree leaning compared to the Michelins. The Diablo’s are very good tyres too, and perfectly fitted for heavy leaning, about the same as for Michelin Pilot Power. Michelin claims their tyre can be leaned a few degrees more, but this is so extreme that most normal humans do not use it. If one look on an IOM TT race, where they have a data logger onboard, it is very rare they lean more than 45 degrees. The Michelin Power can be leaned more than 50 degrees, but this is almost Moto GP territory and requires a lot from the bike, not to mention the driver. At more than 50 degree leaning, we are talking almost insane curve speeds.

 

Shadow1's got it right, it is "tail of the dragon" or Deal's Gap. I live 18 miles from the "Hill" as we call it. Really great road, people vacation here just to ride. Bunch of Michigan and Wisconsin riders were hear this weekend. It's a great road, but as a local it's the beginning of tourist season which means to many slow riders. Lots of squids and people with way to money invested in bikes they can't ride. My old Hurricane gets on down the road, I ride with friends on 600rr's and keep up just fine.Only difference is I'm comfortable with the Hurricanes great riding position.

The "Dragon" is best enjoyed in the off season these days. Summertime is to crowded and you just can't get nice clean runs.

I have to agree with R1000 as usual, and could someone explain to me. What that damn chicken strips supposed to look like LOL.. I do swear these continental road attacks are the best tire, I have ever ran on anything.
