I know I'm not getting the bike over nowhere as far as it can, I still have a 20mm (.8 inch [13/16]) on my Z6 back wheel and 27mm (inch and a bit[time that everyone when to decimal & metric]) on the front Z6.

How far does it go? (waiting for the answer "Down to the pegs.").

 

"Down to the pegs" won't help you, at least on my bike - the exhaust shrouds hit ground before the pegs...!! On my 180 rear tyre, I can get it to the edge without grounding anything, and the 120 front still has about 12mm left.You CAN drag your knee on a Hurricane.......

 

Yer, I have a 180/120 with a aftermarket exhaust (4-2-1) and the previous owner has some of the pegs scraped off (both sides).
So I have quite some way to go.

Note: I believe I'm one of the few with a aftermarket exhaust and a CenterStand.

 

Agree with Shadow1, this rear tyre on my previous Caneis leaned end-to-end, even though it may not look so. The tyre will not melt where there is a sidewall underneath cooling it, which makes itlooking on this picture as there is 5 mm on side that is unused. If I remember right there was 5 to 10 mm left to edge on front. This will however differ some between brands (how they are profiled). Running the front to the edge may be fine on one tyre, but VERY dangerous on another. E.g. the Michelin Power can be leaned to the edge on front but not the Pirelli Diablo, even though the bikes lean angle will be about the same.

Running the rear tyre to the edge on a street tyre is quite easy and does not fully represents the true lean angle. The bike can be leaned a lot more when the rear tyre is on the edge, it will just put more pressure on the edge, or use less of the area that is close to the edge.

Question – what is the correct writing, tire or tyre, or are both ok?

Answer - Both are right. Tire=american english / Tyre=GB/UK english........i think..........

MarkR...That should not be a problem to go further on you tyres. Have youtestedtrack driving....if not....that's the best place totry it out. After my first day at a track i only got around 5-10 mm left to theedge of the reartyre and after the second day under 5 mm.
I'm not afraid to lean down that much in traffic now a'days than i was before the trackdays.

 

Thanks, I was thinking of some sort of track day or advance ridingto get closer to the limits of the bike.
As they say practice makes perfect. Years ago, i would have my bikes sparking around corners from the pegs, but I havn't been able to get it down to that level again after a big break from bike riding, I guess it will take time.

Both spellings are correct, I perfer Tyre. that way, I can write: 'I tire from putting on my new bike tyre'.
But is real life, I would say: 'I tried to put my new bike tyre on, but it took too long and too many bourbons, so I got the shop to do it for me.'

 

@Shadow1: Really? Is there a differance between pre-93 and after -93? I have dragged my pegs alot on a track day, with the exhaust shrouds unscraped.

 

I have not been riding for about 8 years until i bought myCane last summer but it's like riding a bicycle, when you sit up you know what to do. Then again you're more aware when you get older and that propably prevents you from trying that little "extra" that you did'nt have to worry about when you where young and brainless...[sm=happy046.gif][sm=outcold.gif]
