Default Holes underneath mufflers

OK I may be paranoid or just plain dumb but the '91 CBR that I'm looking at buying has a small hole on the underside of each muffler, which blew out air/moisture with bike running. Is this right as my previous bikes (not CBR's) have never had this.

Well if it was blowing moisture out, then that's exactly why its there for.All OEM car mufflershave this to heep the inside from corroding too fast, I would imagine bikes being the same too. Even if the holes were added by the owner, it's not a bad idea.
Are they drilled or rusted out holes?

Not std to my knowledge, but some guys in 'rusty' areas do it to reduce corrosion. It does help.

Mine has those too, but not stock mufflers, though.

My 90 model didn't, This one I have now has Ducati mufflers and they don't plus the Arrow aftermarket cans off the donor onedon't.

Maybe he did it cause of the wet weather you get in Auckland... Four seasons in one day!!!!

My 1991 has these holes, and it has a completely standard exhaust system. They actually drain moisture out of the mufflers quite well, sometimes on a cold morning you can see little shots of vapour coming out of them.

I have an 87. I have original Honda mufflers & they have the holes. Maybe the variation is due to different design requirements for different countries or regions?
