High reving at speed
M 99 model seems to rev harder than a lot of other people's here. at 100kph it sits on 4000rpm. Seems a little high where some pople with similair models are almost 1000rpm better.
I've got stock gearing and a 170mm rear tyre. It idles at 1000rpm if that makes any difference.
Seen I do a moderate amount of long rides would it be better to change to a less revvy gear ratio?

RE: High reving at speed
yeah I've a '94 model here which I believe runs the standard gearing and that sits at around 3,950 for 100kph. I've heard a couple of times that the previous shape CBR1000 (1989 through 1992) did 100kph at around 3750rpm, of which I can only assume is due tohigher stock gearing. As to how much truth there is to that I don't know.

RE: High reving at speed
Mine also runs 100 km/t at 4000 rpm.
BTW the last time I ordered a new chain and sprocket, there were a difference between the models before and after 1996. As far as I can see now on the internet at my local dealer, the pre 1996 model has a 42 teeth rear sprocket, and the newer than 1996 models have a 41 teeth sprocket.
All of themhave 17 in the front.
I don't know why this is so, but that is the way the local Honda dealer sells'em
