Default HELP:What is this part????

I think they go somewhere between the lower fairing and the frame but for the life of me I can't figure it out. They were removed when I bought the bike. I think they are some sort of an air deflector. They are each marked with an R and an L too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have similar parts which fit between my fairing and the engine just below the fuse and coolant covers. I think they're air deflectors to improve flow through the radiator (I can't think of any other reason for them being there.........

Maybe some of the early model owners can help here......

They are rubber heat guards. They stop the hot air coming off of the radiator from passing up under the tank and saddle. On my 1994 there is one piece that goes all the way across and down the sides. It is bolted in place under the spark coils and I think at the sides. When I adjust the valves I think I have to remove it to get the valve cover off, or at lease make the adjustments.

yes, yes that's what they must be cause there is a heck of a lot of hot air coming from the petcock/side cover area.

I've tried to installe them when I had the engie apart but couldn't figure it out. I wish I could find a picture of someone's bike that shows this in place.
