Default Help wanted Nr Chesterfield

Hello and help.
Having had my bike an '88 FJ stood for approx 18 months I want her back on the road. Have got her started but have fuel leaking from the carbs. Has anyone near here ever removed their carbs and could offer assistance...or advice. Can pay any expenses incurred and make a mean brew....

I'm all the way down in Brighton I'm afraid, but it's an easy enough job to do.

Just be methodical, take pictures and ask any questions on here and we'll talk you through it.

Whenever I see threads mentioning gaskets and o-rings, I often wonder whether it's possible to use that silicone instant gasket stuff. I've used it on things like water pump, valve cover etc. Would it work on carbs?

short term, yeah for silicone if you are in a bind and need a quick fix, however
if using sealant for longer term sealing one would use an anaerobic
type sealant the only caveat being, since it sets hard without requiring air to
cure, is that next time the two surfaces are separated clean up is a bit of a
beeeeatch.

Sealant of any kind is not a good idea for the fuel T orings !

Hi John,

I don't live far from you and will be pleased to come and help, the only problem is I'm away at work at the moment but will be returning on the 11th July.

If you still need help then just PM me and we can sort out a date etc.

I have removed my carbs a few times and cleaned them so it's not a problem. If there are any other problems just let me know and I'm sure we can get your bike back on the road and working as good as new.

Well the carbs came off tonight with no obvious points of leakage. Bottom of no.2 was cleaner than others but this is where I saw fuel leaking. The connecting rubbers to the manifold are very stiff and I have decided to replace these, also float bowl gaskets. lets just hope I can get it back together....
