Default heat and stutter

noticed some new symptoms for about a week now...

bike seems to heat up quicker than normal..
and when it starts to get to above half way on temp gauge
it wants to die on idle.it eventually stalls if i don't keep the revs up
then on take of it stutters like crazy till i get the revs past 2000rpm.

can foul plugs cause the engine to heat up quicker and also be the
reason for the poor idle?

fan still comes on but seems to come on on the 3/4 mark.

Its almost like it gets a huge miss on idle as if the bike held its breath
and wants to die.

coolant in radiator is clear of any oil.
carbs where balanced fine 2 weeks ago
did change oil 2 weeks ago to 20/50 (i know these can play havoc sometimes - but i think its something else)
checked the air filter and cleaned
the bike runs perfect for the 1st 5 minutes

could a water pump not be working without someone noticing
until it boils over?

Faulty Rectifier do this?

I,ve also heard that sometimes the engine can get so hot that the
petrol also boils and makes the bike run too rich and cause the stutter
and engine stalling.

check spark plugs first?

Any Thoughts would be welcomed

not sure about how old exhaust is..i'm sure its not the original one..so probably 13 years old.. you reckon it could be blocked going out causing quick heating and poor running..could rain water in the mufflers do it? cause its had a lot to drink lately...in fact the first time i noticed this was in the rain but that could have been just bad luck and unrelated.maybe..

Pull the plugs and see if they are glazed / overheated (pure white on the insulators )

if so my guess is she's running too lean and subsequently getting too hot !

What specific air filter is in it ?? what plugs are in there ??

If it's not requiring a jumpstart then your R/R should be okay.

If it has light brown deposits on the insulators then it's something else

Plugs first as always.

Did this happen suddenly or gradually over a few days? Did it happen straight after you did some work to it or straight after you filled up from a different servo?

Just thinking outloud.

horse_power777, did you get your fuel from the same place or did you put some E85 in by mistake? Just a thought.

Yeah, I've heard of a long row of cars all broken down after leaving a servo here. they only made it a couple of hundred metres.

777. After you check and clean the plugs, drain the tank into a jerry (keep it in case it's fine), drain the carbs and put in some fresh juice from a big servo that shifts a lot of fuel.

It can't hurt, doesn't cost anything and will at least rule out one thing from the long list of possible causes.

No its not the petrol, I wish it was that simple, I filled up 4 times now different servos..I will certainly pull out the plugs on the weekend - it progressively got worse and not just all of a sudden - I'm leaning towards the plugs being very fouled because I forgot to mention something else I did two weeks ago - don't
yell at me please.. I added some oil additive that said good for old engines but
did have a warning to change the oil after x number of k's but I changed new oil then added the additive, and I remember a warning saying that it can foul plugs..never removed plugs before, is it as simple as a plug spanner in there and turn, cause I had a look yesterday and I think I saw what look like a cir-clip in there. Anyways I dont own a bike plug socket so need to get one on saturday.

thanks for the comments guys, will post a pic of the plugs when I pull em out just for curiosity sake..

Yell
jk lol

Hey it'd be cool to see how fouled up they got and what the additive was so
we know what to avoid !

Me personally I'd drain rinse wash repeat once or twice man !
you could even use the old previous oil to help flush it out
