I think they're the same. What kind are you fitting and have you looked at gel grips? I'm going with those next to reduce the 'vibes'.
I really like my Olympia Gel Gloves. Made a bigger difference than I ever expected.

The grips i am looking at are 7/8" but they have spikes at the end. That can't work?
I've heard of bad results without using weights on this bike. (ie vibration)
I see it says you can remove the spikes, but then you wouldn't have the cool spikes and it would probably look goofy with the different color weights on the barends with those grips......

If you go for a longer ride I think you'll get the vibes mate. I've got VFR end weights on mine at the moment, which are smaller than standard ones, and I'm noticing worse high frequency vibration.
Dylan. I've got the foam ones on atm. Previously I've tried the thick touring ones but they felt crap to me. Way too fat and no feel. Now I'm using 'sport' foamies which are thinner. I've put them on four road bikes and find them to be fine for everyday use. I haven't started actively searching for specific gel grips yet but have seen a few on the net. I think they'd be the go for general purpose road use for all but the most hard core riders.
