Default Good Deal?

I have a bike I am thinking of buying. 88 cbr 1000. It was a restoration project by the seller. He states it is too fast for him and now is too much bike since it is done. Odometer says 12,000 and it runs pretty nice. I have not ridden it yet but it starts right up and goes into gear fine. The only problem with it is it is missing the side panels and complete lower fairing. I do not personally care about the lowers as I kind of dig the streetfighter look. I will however, be searching for the side panels. The seller is not going below $1,500. Is this a fair price? Thanks

I flipped $900 US for my 87 but it was a mess and the project was mine. If that's all that is wrong with it it would definitely be worth that much to me.

Thanks for the reply. He started at $2000. Now has dropped to $1600, but I plan on taking $1400 cash. I am sure he will go for it.

That's a lot of bike for $1500. Check kbb in your area -http://www.kbb.com/kbb/Motorcycles/Retail.aspx
The milage sounds too good but not unheardof. A local example: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/mcy/623910377.html
Mine had 29K mi. 2 years ago for $1700.

On the otherhand, it's a hefty ride at 560+lbs for a streetfighter. It's not a flicker.
I tend to think Triumph Triple Speed.
Panels are scarce when wanted. The inner plumbing/wiring layout lends itself to coverage (imo). But it depends on how much $ you want to spend in that area. Rear wheel width limited to 140-150 stock unless more mods...
Brakes are weak for the power of this bike!!! Much planning needed.

Good Luck.

I paid $2,000 for my bike last spring. Had 25k miles at the time, with brand new tires, brakes, rotors, k&n filters, fuel filters etc... it was completely redone.Only thing I've done is change the oil and I added new handgrips and a smoke windscreen. I think I got a great bike for the money.

I payed 2200 for my 91 and it needs work on the third cylinder (oil gets up on the plug). Probably could use all new rings. It has just under 70000 miles on it. Some damage on the left side. So compared to me I think 1500 would be great.

Turns out it was junk. Mismatch everything and at idle the motor sounded like tin cans in a trash bag. The search continues.
