Default Getting Old

So after an hour ride I've noticed my hand is done.

Found out the old throttle lock I used to use back in the day is illegal now. Big surprise, bid on one anyway.

How do you guys deal with this (if at all). My hand went numb after awhile (about 15 minutes) but I worried it wouldn't move when I stopped. I think I got arthritis from all the knuckles I busted.

The arthritis in my pinky fingers is the worst for me. Not too bad in the warmer weather, but in winter it's agony, I practice Zen meditation on the bike, helps me to ignore the pain LOL

Yeah I am having an issue typing after 2 days ago. I drove home from the casino in the pouring rain and my hand was so screwed I was afraid to loosen my grip because I wasn't sure I could tighten it again.

I broke all my knuckles in 2 places when I was young in a fight and as time passes it gets worse.

My throttle hand will ache for the first 10 minutes, then go numb. I do a lot of droning on the interstate during my commute. Lately while riding to work, I've been overreaching the throttle hoping my wrist will be in a more natural position while on the freeway. That helps a little

Doesn't bother me on a high-speed twisty run at all. Or maybe I just don't notice it then

I get pins and needles but it doesn't go totally numb. I ride to work everyday and I have a sore wrist by the end of the week. I usually then take the train or have the wife drop me off to have a break off the bike for a few days. I've had throttle locks on my bikes over the years and I don't like them.

Hey:

Just like I used to tell my troops," pain is weakness leaving the body, soldier up and stop being a *****, endure the pain and become a real fighting man" but I have no compassion for anyone so on another note fix the pain at the source.

On the second note if you want to alleviate as much pain as possible, get adjustable bars like the ones Sprock has: The dan moto ones :3D Clip On 41mm Black [HD-00009] - $69.00
this helps alot, you can adj out the angle, taking pressure off the wrists, that eliminates the nerve tension in the hands, helping your knuckles from going numb. This will not eliminate the pain, but can help it become more withstanding than it is now. Also good quality grips help alot, as well as a throttle helper:http://www.ebay.com/itm/THROTTLE-***...78a469&vxp=mtr. So it will take a little Hueristic analysis on your part to get the best combo for you.

Good luck

Dub

Adjustable bars as Dub says - add to that heavier bar end weights, large foam grips
a throttle lock the throttle tube clamping style - as good as it gets.

Not a fan of gel gloves myself - too bulky - I usually ride with a relaxed grip anyhow
Grabbing the bars too firmly leads to serious discomfort which means in my opinion
you are doing it wrong .....lol

My left hand never bothers me. That's why I try to bring my right into the same position for long periods. Also, I don't know about you guys, I always have a finger or two (index on the front brake and two for the clutch) extended while riding. It's an old habit

Foam grips around here in the rain are not an option. Like sponges

Dub, you live in Fayetteville? Never been there, but did live over in Winston for a time

Hey:
No, I Used to live near The golf course @ Pinehurst, and 15 mins from the track @ Rockingham but now live further South near the SC border. About 45 mins from Fayettenam, NC, but I do work on Post, when home in the USA, I've been here in the area 20 + years, 17+ Active Duty(AD) with a bunch of deployments (sand box), but only 3 as a Mil Contractor. The other 8+ AD years all stationed overseas. UK, Norway, Germany, and Korea,

Good for you, A good Serviceman, a good soldier! You do any time at Ft. Lewis?

But naw, I'm a civilian, but loved the country down there.
