just got this bike, just joined cbr i need to know can i stuff an 04 cbr motor in my little bus or is there a place i can get a freshy motor for oh its a 94 and i love it when wifes gone gonna put it in our room.
Short answer? I wouldn't consider putting an RR motor in this bike.

Long answer? I suppose anything is possible with heavy modification but you're talking about a totally different beast with the RR motor. Top airbox, injection, different mounts, different dimensions, etc etc. You'd have to custom fab just about everything.

It shouldn't be terrible to find a decent used motor for this bike, though.

So what's wrong with the one you have??

:QUOTE=Indiana Hurricane;988682]I like the Gen I. I did the rear tire Mod. to a 180. The 87' Model is the one that started it all. ::[/QUOTE]

Once you have made the improvement that Indy and I have made on ours, they really don't have any disavantages compared to gen 2 & 3, in fact they are lighter and a bit wee more powerful about 7-to ten hp, parts are not a problem to find because a lot of riders are chrashing with their gen 2 and 3 ( ) I have t to thank them it is how i was able to do the mods on mine.LOL

And one thing, you arrive with a gen1 at a place it will draw more attention than a newer model.

When i arrived with mine at a honda dealers, mechanics came out to see it.

I've had a gen 1. Wrecked. I have a Gen 3 currently. I have a CBR1100XX. currently.
I don't know all of the various differences beyond what has already been stated. The linked brakes seem to work really well. Some like them Some don't. I like them. The XX can come with FI (99-03). I like FI. The 96 CBR1000F that I have now has a slightly more upright riding position than the 88 that I owned. A touch more leg room as well.

I had a CX500 but the Turbo one, loved that bike. Traded that one in for the new '89 FK which if you read my first few posts you will see its an unfinished love affair. So im biased to Gen2 Barber Shop colors. None of the others speak to me.

Hey:

I just had some spare time and would like to share some observations and opinions on this subject.

I agree with you guys the MK2 colours are great, but I can't stand the (Cylon Battlestar Galactica 1st gen series) beam/ Kit want to be tailights. It was the very 1st mod I did after the 93 bikes came out, was to change to the MK3 rear end on my 91. Now it has a MK3 front end as well just all painted Daytona Yellow. I also feel the MK3 colours are great as well, especially the last Euro/Asian models.

I too traded a CXTurbo in for my 88 CBR1000F back in 89, as I bought dealership left overs, (CBR600F1 at that time as a track bike too)from a dealership that was going to merge with a Kaw/Suzi/Yam dealer back then for Dealer Cost . It was one of 3 bikes (CB1100 or CBX were the other 2) they would take in trade at the time, that the owner wanted for himself, as it was show room stock still 5 yrs later. I now own a 88, 91 and 94. the only thing is they all have MK3 bodywork just to make them better looking and simplify spares. My sons are taking over the 91 and 94 bikes as they like the colors better and I could not part with my 88 as it going thru a little upgrade at the moment that will be completed soon. Honda IMHO, got the bike right from the start, but made a great improvement the with 89 model update and did only cosmetic upgrades from there the exception being the linked brakes on the MK3 1992 plus models and the carbs are much inproved as well on the MK3s. I have owned 6 of these bikes over the years including a insurance write off parts bike of the last years of production. They all have/had great manners and don't look out of place with friends 2010 Kaw1400 or Busas and in the real world can still keep up with 75% or better of the riders of those bikes. Just wish I could find a CB1300SF or R fuel injection motor on my travels for cheap to see if I could make that motor fit with a 6 spd gearbox upgrade into my 88 CBR and see what all was improved on the cam chain side of things with that motor as they appear to be from the same Honda engine design family. May be next time I'M in Abu Dhabi or Dubai I 'll find one.

Dub , my 1990 is insulted , but hey no use posting all this up without some
pics of that Daytona yellow. BTW news to me there was a 1992 Hurricane my
understanding is that's the zero year here in the US. 1993 - 1996 for MK3 in the
US .

I have a "93" and it turns heads ,, Heck..I've had GSXR's challenging me all over town LOL! I guess bad blood with Gixxer's and CBR's,, something I didnt know about when I bought the bike LOL!! I can't really see much of anything wrong with all the model yrs except the lack of more color design choices . The improvements got better with each model (meaning MK1-MK2-MK3) and as each yr just got prettier ,,and gained wee bit of weight ,(not really a good thing for the design) but,, Honda made a truly remarkable bike worth noting that it broke records and rung in a new era of bikes that other makers scrambled to catch up with . I myself like all the yrs honda made CBR's .
So, that Davethepom doesn't have to reply,,I'll just say it,, My 93 yr is prettier LOL!!
It's in Metallic Ghost Gray at the moment , but a work in progress.
BTW , I started out riding and racing 72-75 Kawasaki H1 500's & H2 750cc Triple 2 strokes until outlawed, and like triples, the CBR is a pure powerhouse . These ole girls can still kick some serious butt to this day and still blend in with the new style bikes pretty well . Oh, I have the rear mod too,,160 / 50 / 17 metzner M4 tire on custom Enkei rims front and rear , (a little bit wider rear rim) the front runs maxxis Z 120 / 70 / 17 and it handles like a dream. After the rear tire wears out , Z6 metzner is going on it.
