Gas Mileage?

Gas Mileage?
I picked up an 88 Hurricane 1000 last year from ebay. Seller promised me the bike ran great. It only had 9500 miles. NOT! I just had the carbs rebuilt, master cylinder and slave cylinder rebuilt and new fork seals put in to a tune of $1900. WAA! Bike runs great but I`m only getting 24 mpg. I have an original review of the bike and they got between 33-40mpg. I`ve had 6 other Honda`s and they all got around 40mpg. Any comments?

What are your driving conditions? Many short trips, engine not fully warming? What is the gearing?
I'm getting 42-44 mpg with my '93 equiped with V&H system, Dynojet kit and K&N filter, stock gearing.
Almost forgot, your milage will be affected by the setting of the idle mixture screws. When I first put the exhaust system on I opened them by 1/4 turn. My milage went to 38-40. They're back at the stock setting.

The local Honda dealer completely rebuilt all the carbs last week. I put 86 miles on it and it used 3.5 gallons of gas. The bike is completely stock as far as I know.

rwl, first.. I'd check it through a couple tanks. Make sure you're getting 24MPG.
Second, I'd make sure the carbs are synced. Maybe call Honda and just ask if they synced 'em, maybe?
24MPG seems pretty bad. I get about 33-36 when I ride hard, but when I ride normal (once), I got 40MPG. I'd say 40 is about avg.
(weird, that's about what you said it was in the "review")

Gas Mileage
The Honda dealer completely rebuilt all 4 carbs, flushed the tank and lines, synched the carbs and filled it up w/91 octane gas. The bike runs great but I can`t figure out how it could be getting such poor mileage. My car gets better mileage.I also had the master cylinder and the slave cylinder rebuilt and new fork seals for a tune of $1900.0. They told me the main jet had been screwed in all they way and broken off. They had to drill it out.
