Smile Full floater disks on an 88: SucessFULL!

Good mroning gents!

Season is over anf winbter,s the time to make the mods on the bike, i am takling two mod this winter:

1= full floater disk for the front brakes
2= seat with incoiperated backrest for the missus

1 got the wheels from a vtr1000f ( disks are the same diameter), the disk, the spacers and spindle , now need two fit them on premelary, it fitts but a bit of drag from the left caliper bracket( because of the antidive).

thoughts: vtr1000f forks are the same diameter, or should i only shave the brakets and use spacers to fit the deed? your thoughts

2- i got a second seat and will modify with the backrest, easy swap when going solo or two up

and yes haven,t been active this summer i think i took out the bike for outings at thhe most 20 times, i decided to get back in the shape I was about 3 years ago, so i am happy to report that i an lean mean machine, 6'1 195 10% fat ! reached the goal, the wife is quite happy! spent a lot of time gardening , gym, running rller blading and swimming!

hope you guys are doing fine!

Well done on the weight loss Dragon. The best performance mod you can do on the bike, it's like adding another 20-30 BHP and the cheapest way to do it!!

I've managed to shed about 20-25 pounds myself, feeling quite smug

As for the brake upgrade, I think the neatest method would be to change the forks as well, but that could be expensive and you might need to change the callipers as well. Depends on the depth of your wallet how much your willing to sink into the bike and the parts availability.

Cheapest way would be to work with what you've got I suppose.

Update,

I have managed to work on the bike this week and here is the state of the project:

Whelle is on ( big help from Sprock to get it to Mtl : many thanks). I got the original spacers of a VTR1000f, filts almost perfectly, only had to add a small spacer of 1mm on the right side. Perfectly centered!

the left caliper bracket fits but will have to work it a bit same for the right one about an hour work.

If any has spares frton caliper brackets I will gladly buy them, at the moment looking on ebay.

From the first look it will look awesome!

Thanks

Default CBR1KF Wheel and Fork upgrade

Hey Dragon:

Carl did you decide to use the VTR fork lowers and get longer fork tubes for the CBR and dispose of the air forks from 88? The newer brakes and adjustable suspension make that an awesome setup but the springs and fork tubes have to change or get a set of 90-92 CBR1KF fork tubes for the right length and install the adjustable caps into them with a longer valve or extended valve tube with the VTR lowers. It is not a USD but works and handles very well, and is doable by any of the good suspension guys if you don't want to do it yourself. Then all you just need is a gold valve cartidge kit and a rear Elka or like shock, and you would have a like new bike.

Not yet this is for the future, but i have a question, by keeping the original calipers will i run in trouble( security) because they are not oposing pistons , or it does not matter.

If yes i will have to wait and buy all the rest.

Thanks

Hey:

No trouble just not as good as it could be. The CBR600F4, CB1300F and the VTR1000 all share the same caliper if I remeber correctly just different colours and vari to year on piston size. They are a lot stronger if that is what you want the VTR lowers would be one way to attach them, a bracket made for your forks or newer ones is another way. Good Luck on your choice, and shop wisely. Also if you go to the newer calipers you need the VTR1000, CBR600F4 or CBR600RR 03-05 Master Cylinder to put enough fluid to all the pistons for repeated use.

Couple of options listed here Mon Ami

Nice work by the way - also with the fitness routine too.

Ok guys this was a simple one , but I did not think of it, instead of changing or modifying the caliper brackets, shave the excess of the rotor mounting points on the vtr wheel to bring the rotor in line with the calipers on my bike!

Ok shoot me! I woke up during the night to get a glass of water and it dawned on me!

Will let you know how it goes but that should be very very simple.
